Welcome to the “Read Japanese Every Single Day” Challenge, Fall/Autumn Edition!
This summer, @Redglare had the amazing idea of doing a “Read Every Day” challenge, where we challenged ourselves to read something in Japanese every day for 2 whole months - we had so much fun with this challenge that we decided to do it again If you missed the summer challenge, feel free to jump in on this one - we would love to have more people join in on the fun!
Personal testimony - this challenge is awesome! My biggest issue, with everything, has always been doing it consistently. But somehow, this challenge actually got me reading every single day for 2 whole months (plus a little extra - I chose to extend my challenge because I wasn’t quite ready to stop ). Magic! If you want to read more but chronically procrastinate on actually doing it, this might just be the challenge for you.
Whether you are an expert reader already or a new reader just starting out, everyone is welcome to participate in this challenge! To quote @Redglare:
This is a thread for people who:
want to spend time reading a bunch this fall/autumn
want to improve their reading speed and comprehension
want to hold themselves accountable and have a place to document their progress
simply want to join in on the challenge of reading every day for two or so months
Time frame: September 1 - October 31
This is the “official” recommended time frame, but late starters are absolutely welcome! This thread will be up and running until the end of December, so you can start and finish your personal challenge at any point during that time, and shorten or lengthen the challenge to the time period that works best for you. Yes, we know that this time frame does not completely align with the astronomical season of fall/autumn, and may not represent “autumn time” for everyone - we had this discussion in the summer challenge thread and the general consensus was - it’s fine
Your reading materials can be whatever you want, be it manga, light novels, books, visual novels, magazines, graded readers, satori reader, or Japanese games, you name it, anything goes as long as it is something in Japanese
Threads worth checking out
I recommend checking out The News Reading Challenge thread if you’d like to read news articles every day, but you are of course welcome to post about it in this thread too if you’d like to.

There’s also quite a few book clubs here on the forum, some of them have vocab lists which can make for an easier reading experience. A list of book clubs can be found here:
