Welcome to the “Read Japanese Every Single Day” Challenge, Fall 2023 Edition! 
The days are getting longer, and the weather’s getting colder - fall is here! (Or 
autumn , if you’re feeling fancy 
) Time to grab yourself a pumpkin spice latte (or other drink of choice - I prefer hot apple cider, personally) and settle in for some cozy fall reading 
If you missed the previous Read Every Day challenges, feel free to jump in on this one! We would love to have more people join in on the fun and experience the magic of the challenge
A little history behind this challenge: in the summer of 2021, @Redglare had the awesome idea of doing a “Read Every Day” challenge, where we challenged ourselves to read something in Japanese every day for 2 whole months - we liked this challenge so much that we decided to make it a recurring thing! 
This is sort of a special challenge thread for me, because I started hosting these challenges in Fall 2021 - that means I’ve officially been hosting this challenge for 2 years straight 
Time sure does fly lol It’s 'cause we’re having fun, right? 
Every challenge thread has its own special flavor, but the one thing they always have in common is being positive, encouraging, and fun! There are also usually some cute manga and cute animals involved - pet pictures are welcomed

Why is this challenge so special, or what makes it unique? Well, we think it’s a combination of the short/limited time frame, the habit-focused (versus output-focused) approach to the goal of “reading more,” and the general atmosphere of camaraderie and community spirit that’s been present in each challenge thread thus far ^^ I can say from personal experience that these challenges have helped me read way more than I would have otherwise, and many people (including myself) have noticed significant growth in reading speed and/or stamina while participating in the challenges.
Whether you are an expert reader already or a new reader just starting out, everyone is welcome to participate in this challenge! To quote @Redglare:
This is a thread for people who:
want to spend time reading a bunch this fall
want to improve their reading speed and comprehension
want to hold themselves accountable and have a place to document their progress
simply want to join in on the challenge of reading every day for two or so months 
Time frame: October 1 - November 30
This is the “official” recommended time frame, but late starters are absolutely welcome! This thread will be up and running until the end of December, so you can start and finish your personal challenge at any point during that time, and shorten or lengthen the challenge to the time period that works best for you.
Your reading materials can be whatever you want, be it manga, light novels, books, visual novels, magazines, graded readers, satori reader, Japanese webpages/blogs, or Japanese games - you name it, anything goes as long as it is something in Japanese 
“Reading” can be interpreted creatively, if that helps keep you motivated - for example, some people have counted reading Japanese subtitles as reading some days. In general, we are a pretty flexible and forgiving bunch

My reign as the longest lasting regular 
these threads make a world of difference to my motivation, and I’ve really enjoyed being a part of them
For anyone following the apparently never-ending saga of my workplace being a hot mess - things did not get better over the month-long break. They are not getting better. In fact, they are only going to get worse as we move progressively further into the bowels of winter. I’m VERY burnt out. I am Stressed 
I am mad because I was “asked” (like I actually had a choice) to be in charge of a thing happening in Jan/Feb that I know from past experience will be the final nail in the coffin for my mental health (and which is also going to interfere with some things I actually WANT to do in my personal life). My frustration tolerance is at an all-time low because my life is frustration on a day-to-day basis because nothing and no one can just do what they’re supposed to be doing. All of which does not make for a good reading mindset.
But I don’t know that I have the stamina for a book book right now. There is the manga, which I was trying to save for after I read the book

I’ll be attempting to finish two books before the end of the challenge: コンビニ人間 (currently at 50%) and 夜のピクニック. I’m approaching the most important exams of my life thus far so time is not on my side, but I’ll do my best to read somewhat consistently!
