Since I track my reading in my study log anyway, I thought it would be nice to join this challenge again. But unfortunately my motivation is generally low at the moment, so I will keep it simple with “only” checkmarks this time around.
Goal:
I wish to read more and more books/light novels (instead of only manga). Currently I am reading コンビニ人間 and 本好きの下剋上 with book clubs, and I am not sure about the schedule at the moment, but maybe I can even finish a book during this challenge. This would be nice.

I’m excited to be joining one of the forum’s “[blank] every day” challenges for the first time! Like many people, this is my favorite season, and the weather finally shifting where I live into autumnal colors, smells, and temperatures has got me motivated.

So many plus signs in my reading these days!
Most of these are pretty self-explanatory, except maybe the last one. I follow an artist on Instagram (ekakimajo) who always writes lovely, poetic captions on her posts. When I first followed her, I basically couldn’t understand a thing, but over this past year, I’ve noticed that I can read them more and more, little by little, whenever they show up on my timeline. I rarely understand them completely (partially due to the poetic nature and partially due to my own lack of vocab/grammar knowledge) but her captions are always very soft and heartwarming, just like her art. I’ve decided to make them count for days when I run out of energy or time for the other materials.
In general, I’m going to go pretty light on my self-expectations. Reading every day is something I want to do, but sometimes struggle to make time for–so for now, that’s all there is to the goal.

I’ve never done this before! But having bought some cute beginners’ manga from the Kinokuniya in Japantown, San Francisco the other day, I’m going to push myself to do the challenge to get going. Thanks for running this! And I love the calendar.

Aynnej’s Home Post
I’d like to up my reading game, and this seems like the place to do it. However, I’ll be taking a break Oct. 30 - Nov. 9 to attend a writing residency.
For material, I’ll use NHK News Web Easy and a graded reader called 美知子の星空 (Michiko’s Starry Sky). I also have a textbook reader (with vocab lists, grammar explanations, audio) called Japanese Stories for Language Learners that I might dip into, but mostly I’d like to try reading without the formal instruction, just to see how I’ll do.

my fourth one, amazing how quickly it’s flown by! thanks windupbird for hosting another one of these, good luck to returning folks and hello to the new faces! looking forward to once again mining everyone’s posts for new things to read/play 
a lot of my goals for this time are rolled over from last time because 逆転検事２ took a lot longer than expected, but that’s not such a bad thing!
- make progress on my physical tbr. this mainly means the rest of jujutsu kaisen from roughly 10 up to vol 22 and ３月のライオン from 1 up to vol 16. maybe a book if i’m feeling adventurous, すきまのおともだちたち looks to be the simplest one i own
- read a news article every weekday. did just nhk last time but might try some 朝日新聞 this time. also want to try translating a paragraph each day, or maybe a sentence if it’s giving me trouble
- keep up with the 桜蘭高校 club, though depending on how my other reading goes i might read ahead
- an entry of a dictionary of intermediate japanese grammar each day too. this may get adjusted.
nothing too adventurous time, just keep plodding along. my mess of a bookwalker list can wait for another time i think i got a little burnt out last time but i’ve got better tactics in place to avoid that this time (plus no jlpt to study for) so we’re good to go!

I think I’m gonna aim for at least three novels finished each month this challenge, as I’ve managed 3-5 since May. And considering I’m going into this with 6 5 novels I’m reading on my own this time around (I’m hoping to finish Doubles 3 before this challenge starts, but then I’m probably gonna immediately start 4 after that, so. It’s likely still gonna be 6 Update: I finished 3 a day later than anticipated and am starting 4 in October), then I definitely wanna finish more than one of those in these three months. I actually don’t have any book club books that are novels that I’m reading currently, and apparently that meant I had to fill the gap with non-book-club novels. -facepalm-
I probably won’t be posting daily updates this challenge since I ended up coming to think of them as a pain, but I’ll likely still do monthly-summary-type posts, we’ll see. I’m also doing some slightly different symbols for my calendar and finished items this challenge, since I’m tired of it changing the size of some of my ◎s at random.

My Study Log
My home post in the Listen every day challenge
Last time I wasn’t very consistent because of internet troubles; I don’t have a lot of non-online resources for my reading level. So if that happens again I’m gonna read something above my level and tough it out.
I also don’t think I will hold myself to reading for a certain amount of time; my reading stamina varies wildly from day to day, even when reading my native language. Instead I will put more emphasis into looking up and learning whatever vocabulary is giving me trouble in whatever I’m reading.
Also, will probably only do weekly summary posts because making daily posts was sometimes negatively impacting my desire to actually do the challenge.

Because I haven’t done much reading, it’s hard. Because it’s hard, I tend not to do it. Lather, rinse, repeat. Goal is to read something every day, even if it’s just a paragraph or two.
I’m starting with Tuttle’s bilingual “Japanese Folktales for Language Learners,” which also has audio online. Might be slow getting started, though, with a house guest at the beginning of October.

I’m blessed with getting notified via epost every time a new reading challenge is posted because of the tag in the first post, haha I love it. Thanks for setting up a new thread for us, @windupbird! 
I was contemplating whether to sit this one out since I’m not really much on the forum anymore (I’m still reading books every day anyways thanks to past reading challenges for helping me build that habit 
). Also tbh reading posts and especially writing a post every day takes up quite some time in the evening for me, ngl. During my absence lately, I’ve gotten better at getting sufficient amounts of sleep from going to bed at more reasonable times too. But hey, maybe I can make it work out 
It’s a good way to track what I’m reading and when.
Whether I’ll post every day, weekly or less often, I’m still thinking about how I want to approach this. We’ll see. Either way, reading will be done

softlyraining’s cozy book stack
Last month was INSANELY busy, and though I’m glad I participated toward the very end of the challenge, I’m happy to be able to start the fall one from the beginning. 
My plan for this challenge is to:
- catch up with and participate in the 月刊少女野崎くん Book Club,
- start and finish ペンギン・ハイウェイ (alongside the audio book), and
- do JLPT prep (I regret signing up since I feel VERY unprepared, but I already paid the registration fee, so onward I must go to my death
).
Hopefully by keeping it simple, I’ll be able to complete each area and not burn out. 
Also, a hearty welcome to those participating for the first time! It’s always nice to see returning faces and new ones alike.

Vasebane’s Home Post and Tater Tracker

This will be my first time joining the challenge. Super excited to read along with everyone this fall. I ended up making my life a lot harder than necessary because I was so determined to have my custom potato bucket calendar, but I managed to get it ready in time (yay)! I’ll be updating the calendar every week on Sunday instead of every day since I’ll have to delete the old image and exchange it for a new one manually to track my progress. (Yes, extremely tedious, I know. ) Hopefully every bucket will be filled with a happy tater by the end of the challenge!
My daily minimum for reading completion will be 10 minutes. I plan on doing more than that for most days, but I at least want to have some objective measure for whether I completed a day or not.
My plans for reading material
I have a lot of unfinished manga sitting on my shelf. This seems like the perfect opportunity to finally finish them! I was in the middle of four different series earlier (Fruits Basket, Noragami, Dororo, and Azumanga Daioh), and I just bought Steel Ball Run too. I want to finish as many as possible so I can decide which series to keep and which to get rid of (and make room for new, shiny manga, of course). I commit the offense of 積ん読 (buying books but not reading them) on a regular basis, so this is my first step toward breaking that habit. 
I’m also in the Horimiya and マルコと銀河竜 (VN) book clubs. I might be counting my time reading マルコ for some days, even though it’s mostly voiced.
I may occasionally read from my JLPT N2 完全マスター books, or other JLPT apps as well, but I mostly plan to focus on manga this time around.

Winter 2024 Finally drawing up a Post Mortem
This season my reading gradually decreased for life event reasons that I may or may never share here. It wasn’t anything bad, just time consuming
Funkily enough, for the year, my reading rate was practically static, although I think it’s a lot easier for me to read now.
Since I started keeping track, I’m showing a positive increase in reading speed
