:maple_leaf:Rose’s Fall Reading Challenge:poultry_leg:

I need to get into the habit of reading more to prepare for the JLPT N4 in December, so I decided to take part in this challenge! :books:

What I Plan to Read

  • :four_leaf_clover:よつばと！ - Volume 1+ :four_leaf_clover:
    Read quickly through this book last month (my first book in Japanese!), but I was able to understand most of it. I would like to go through this book more in-depth this time around. Looking to eventually purchase the next few volumes as well.

  • :notes:この音とまれ！ - Volume 1 :notes:
    Watched the anime for this and loved it. So I bought the first three volumes of the manga and looking to try reading the first volume. Surprisingly there is no official translation of the manga, although the anime did get official subtitles.

  • :newspaper_roll: NHK News Easy :newspaper_roll:
    I tried reading a few articles a couple of years ago, but it was still too difficult for me. Hopefully this time around, I can actually read some articles.

  • :heavy_check_mark: Miscellaneous Readings :heavy_check_mark:
    In case I did read something in Japanese, but it wasn’t any of the sources mentioned above.

During September I’ve been busy and then on vacation so my reading has suffered and I’m behind on all my bookclubs :fearful:
Hopefully this challenge is a good excuse to get back on track with some comfy fall reading. I’ll set up a home thread later.

I had a busy September, so hopefully this will help me get back on the reading wagon. :sweat_smile: :joy: I’m trying to use Natively properly so that I can read at my level, so I’ll probably be trying to do 30 pages a day or so in Japanese during the challenge. I’ll also (as usual) try and track my reading in Mandarin (probably not French or Spanish though, which I’ll keep more casual).

@fallynleaf I’m currently reading a Julia Alvarez book too! En el tiempo de las mariposas.

Will hopefully make some progress and finish most of these, but I’m not gonna pressure myself about how much I’m gonna read, as long as I just read even a few pages a day that will be great. Especially since most of my manga is not the easiest. haha

Had to readjust the calendar to start on a Sunday, glad I figured that out :joy:
now i just need to remember to update this, too.

What I usually read:

  • Chi’s Sweet Home - it’s not much text as far as reading goes, but it’s a start.

What I want to read:

  • continue Chi’s Sweet Home (obviously)
  • try to read the news - NHK Easy News is still too difficult for me, so I will stick with NHK Easier
  • the stories from DrDru, so I can later transition to the Tile World Chronicles
  • something that sounds interesting from this thread!

Just like last time, I don’t have any specific goals aside from reading in Japanese for at least a little bit for every day of the next three months. I might do a bit of listening practice, which I’ll also keep track of here.

I would like to finish at least one novel this challenge though since I didn’t over the summer one. I have three started right now (2.43 清陰高校男子バレー部 代表決定戦編①・空への助走 福蜂工業高校運動部・明日をくれた君に、光のラブレターを), plus I should be getting vol 2-4 of 夜カフェ early October.

nice! A new challenge! This way I can forget that I totally failed at updating for the last one :see_no_evil:

I have got pretty into using the Bookly app for tracking my reading recently, cos it gives me lots of automatic fun stats. So I won’t do a calendar but I might stop by at least once a week and share how I’ve got on. My main focus right now (other than reading things that are fun) has been upping my reading speed. But it’s hard to see progress cos I love to read things at wildly different difficulty levels :sweat_smile: Still, I will be making some efforts at fitting in more comfortable difficulty extensive reading style things.

Normally these challenges were just somewhere to hang out while I read every day regardless, but at the moment I’ve fallen off a bit and probably need some actual goal to stick to so I’m going to join as proper accountability, like a real challenge now. Just have to drag myself away from Splatoon 3 and horror movies long enough to do it :melting_face:

Given the way progress has halted, I haven’t moved beyond what I was reading very much. I’m further but still in the midst of the first Flowers VN, and still going through Loopers with my club. I’m also 30% through 殺人出産, so I’ll be pulling from all of that. Think I’m just going to go for daily posts and not bother with the home post stuff. Too lazy right now :person_shrugging:

Nonetheless, daily calendar will be made here to link to my reading progress (max 1 per day).

I will try to progress at least every week, but the real goal posting here is to continue reading others’ progress, variety knowledge, and tips. I fear that I may skip reading too many (of others’ post) if I don’t visit and there are already too many replies (and I am not so good enough myself). May I try to read lots and better or not, is to be decided later (not a current priority).
