Like I mentioned above - this is an unscheduled club. You can start at any time, and read as quickly or slowly as you want to.
To make it easy to talk about the content even though we aren’t reading it at the same time, I’ll make a thread per chapter. So whenever you finish a chapter and want to discuss it, just do it in the appropriate thread. (Also feel free to use things like a e.g. a “Comments on the first half of this chapter” detail tag if you want to comment before you read a whole chapter.)
Alright, so here’s the offshoot thread at least! It’ll still be a day or two until I get to make the actual chapter threads, but at least this is something, right? Right?
Apropos “chapter threads”…
I think making a thread per chapter is a good idea
I think we should just keep it all inside this thread
I have a better idea, and yes, I’ll comment about it

I strongly tend towards one thread per chapter at the moment. I think it’ll make talking about what we read easier since we will be reading at different points in time, and I see little reason not to, but let’s see if I’m completely alone with that opinion.
Surprised we seem to have a majority for one thread per chapter. How does that work for a club without a schedule? Are you just going to post all chapter threads in advance?
I feel like anything else is just going to make it hard to properly read all posts for a certain chapter. If we keep it in this thread, it would probably be something like:
Chapter 1 thoughts by A
Chapter 2 thoughts by A
Chapter 3 thoughts by A
Chapter 1 thoughts by B
Chapter 4 thoughts by A
Chapter 1 reply by A
Chapter 2 thoughts by B
Chapter 1 reply by B
Chapter 5 thoughts by B
Chapter 1 thoughts by C
…and so on, making it harder and harder for later people with different reading schedules to engage with already existing thoughts/comment chains. All of that seems completely avoidable by just making a few threads.
Meanwhile, the only two disavantages I see in a thread-chapter-based model:
It’s going to be a bit spammy for a moment. I’m not sure if that’s even a problem, but I can mitigate it by e.g. posting only a few threads at a time and staggering it a bit.
Threads might be a bit bare because we don’t have that many readers, but I don’t see how that’s a problem either.
Yeah, I love this idea! It will definitely be more motivating as I read through the book to know that once I’m done with X chapter I can read the entire thread, rather than having to search through a single thread for things related to that chapter.
It’ll make things a bit harder for me in the beginning, because I’m already three chapters into the book and slowly forgetting what happened in which chapter, so for some things, I’m not sure which thread to comment on to avoid giving people spoilers . But I’ll manage.
How would you’ve spoiler-warned for it if it’s just this one thread? Something like “Chapter 1-3 thoughts”? If so, just post it in the chapter 3 thread.
Sure thing. So, does the club have an official start date yet? I’ve put my reading on hold because I didn’t want to read too far ahead, but it’s kind of painful, because those first couple of chapters were crazy addictive and the other things I am or should be reading are all kind of boring in comparison.
I’ll post the chapter threads today or tomorrow! No idea how long it’ll take the first other participants to reach your progress though - it’s unscheduled after all.
I would definitely encourage you to read at your own pace! Speaking from experience with other unscheduled clubs, it can be really fun watching other people read something that you read a while ago, so speeding ahead doesn’t mean you won’t be able to enjoy the club!
Alright, the threads for prologue up until chapter 3 are up!
I’ll post more soon… once my slightly OCD perfectionistic brain is convinced that the OP post for the chapter threads is good and I won’t have to edit 14 of them
Let me know what you think and/or if you have any suggestions on what to improve! Right now it’s easy to do so.
I finished volume 2 and I finally got to watch episodes 4 to 8⅓. Totally worth it - the book is perfectly paced, and the anime cuts too much but it’s a delight watching all the characters in motion!
And considering how I’m staunchly in the anti Monica bullying camp… seeing all those troubled Monica faces is a guilty pleasure
