I’m lagging behind with my comments, so only a few notes I took when I read this chapter:

This chapter

So, next challenge: The tea coffee party :hot_beverage:.

Enter Claudia, who might or might not suspect Monica of being the Silent Witch. I liked the scene from Lana’s POV, where it turns out that a) Lana often comes across as a braggart, because whenever the girls from the more established noble families ostracize her, she overcompensates by showing off her family’s wealth. And b) she clings to Monica just as much as vice versa. Awww. Funny that Claudia actually got a) right. She’s such a dick in that scene, but also seems competent at quite a few things. I sometimes had trouble picturing her during the tea party scene. I’ll catch up on the anime right after finishing the next chapter hopefully later today, and hope that hearing how the voice actress delivers here lines will make my image of her clearer.

I wonder if the question of who threw away Monica’s tea going to be a mini-mystery with a plot twist, or if it’s just the obvious culprits, i.e. Caroline and her cotery. Since we all just got schooled in the tell-tale signs of a villainess, I’ll be on the lookout for people laughing suspiciously behind their fans.

Thoughts while reading

She’s gonna invent the silent tea party style

Ah, so it’s not just randomly assigned! Nice. She has at least two friends and only one stranger then.

But… won’t Lana and Kelsey have the same restriction, i.e. not bring the same tea as the fourth person? I’m assuming that those two are dealing with it better than Monica could, and she could just ask them then.

But the complete opposite is currently happening here, with the villainess instructing our heroine quite well?!

Me: Eh.
Monica: 「……

There’s plenty of other characters who made it closer to my heart during these 1 1/2 volumes, but there’s only one Isabelle!

So far we’ve mostly seen them roleplay their villainess/victim relationsship in semi-private (in front of the headmaster, and in their room but loud enough to be heard on the outside; although now that I’ve written this I’m also remembering the instance where Isabelle saved Monica from the bullies while roleplaying in this volume’s prologue), so I treated this more as comedy and didn’t think about it too much, but… I’m a bit surprised that our second prince isn’t actually trying to “save” her by separating them or something like that. It seems that this fake relationship is widely known, and Felix seems well-informed and clearly inclined towards Monica, and yet we haven’t even heard him make a single remark on it.

Vile. I’m kind of glad that these situations are only mentioned here in passing, and not often described in detail during the story…

I love how Monica and Isabelle are both super impressed by each other! (Even if it is for vastly different reasons )

But it would be a fantastic opportunity for some bullying, hm? After all, we heard a lot about how many people currently hate Monica during the last pages

Ah, or not then, if she’s not writing her name on it.

That’s as far from the truth as it could possibly be

You mean because she had the audacity to fall down? Because she certainly didn’t even try to blame you.

You know… I’m getting really curious to find out if there’s more to Claudia beyond “abrasive”.

She’s definitely not what I expected when Kelsey introduced her as:

I kind of expected “shy” from a bookworm

I love how mysterious Monica must seem from the outside

Huh. Because Monica was more silent? Or… because she has an idea who Monica really is?

Huh. Bullying after all? Despite it not being marked in a conspicuous way?

:frowning:

I guess she probably was seen while placing those bottles…

Uhm. And Kelsey did see her. Please tell me she’s here because she was… worried or something, and not because she’s responsible for this and everything up to here was some kind of weird plan.

Probably not then. Phew!

That’s twice now that I’ve suspected poor Kelsey

(And while we’re on that topic: It’s almost halfway through the book now, and we haven’t heard anything from the conspirator in the prologue!)

Aw. Poor Lana had it pretty hard, hm?

And… for her it’s really good that Monica’s mission continues. Imagine Lana thinking that she finally found a friend in her class… only for that friend to vanish after like 2 weeks again.

Yep. Because it’s coffee

We’re getting a Monica-style tea party after all

Not sure how this is going to be graded, especially since the grading staff can easily smell it, but… let’s find out!

Don’t worry, Monica, we’re only in volume 2!

Does she? In this specific case and in the moment she was remembering, both times the “showing off her wealth” was because she wanted to entertain (non-noble) friends with nice things, not because she wanted to compensate something.

It’s probably them, considering that the author was talking about them and their bullying tendencies right before this happened.

Also, you’re too fast, @Boodil!

Maybe I’m reading to much into this. It just seemed like she doesn’t really know how to interact with others without throwing her wealth around.

There was a scene in the next chapter that also made me wonder about this. I’ll comment on it there.

Don’t worry, I’ll slow down again after chapter 7. I’m currently using Silent Witch as a kind of palate cleanser - to motivate myself with something I can actually somewhat understand after reading something that felt like a chore. This week, I rewarded myself for finishing a volume of an ABC I was more than a month behind on by reading two chapters of SW in a row.
