Ready to try again I need to remind myself that reading ANY amount counts instead of telling myself it must be a full chapter lmao. Looking forward to trying to get an unbreakable streak
Goal wise I’d like to try keep up with the book clubs I’m in week by week, and then for thing I’m reading myself hopefully stick to one at a time or I end up never finishing some of them. Also I’m interested in this book bingo business so maybe I can do that too ’
I will join I have particpated in every Read Japanese Every Day challenges until now. Unfortunately I was way too lazy this year I need to read much more during this last challenge for 2024.
I started WK when I was taking Japanese in college (I graduated in 2015, good lord) and I found it extremely helpful. Flash forward almost a full decade and I’ve decided to get back to studying Japanese on my own! I haven’t really kept up with my studies since I graduated, moved across the US a couple of times, tried out a couple of different careers, got married, survived a pandemic, etc. I miss the classroom setting, but now I’m not studying with a particular goal in mind. It’s just for funsies!
I don’t want to burn out, but I also don’t want to lose the momentum I’ve built, so I figured the reading and listening challenges would be a fun motivator. I’ve been studying on my own for about 6 weeks, and I remember a lot more than I expected, so I already completed my first ABBC manga, レンタルおにいちゃん.
No major goals for the challenge, just to read a little every day. Going to start withちいさな森のオオカミちゃん and following along with the book club posts when I inevitably have questions.
December will likely be too busy to keep it up, but hopefully I can participate every day in October and November.

October 7-???
My family is in town and my studies have completely fallen off
I honestly don’t know what to do whenever I’m done with my WK studies. And I thought joining challenges will push me to pick up some things that are outside of WK. The listening challenge is something I can do passively, but I’m bad at reading the kanas so maybe this will help me with that.
I was thinking of joining the book club but I haven’t read the original CCS and they’re doing the CCS Clear Card version. Plus my grammar is not on par yet with a book club…maybe.
WIll be joining the カードキャプターさくら a bit late!
So my goals for joining this reading challenge:
Solidify my kana reading skill
Make reading in JPN a habit
Remove my sense of fear when I see texts in Japanese
I don’t know why I thought you guys are reading the clear card version, but I checked last night and it was the original indeed! I’ll be joining the book club, but as it is, starting quite late.
You’re absolutely right! I went ahead and installed Mokuro with your guide on the Mokuro thread without any intention of using it anytime soon but I guess I have a reason now. So thank you for that!
I tried one of the book clubs last year and bombed out straight away.
I had a trip to Japan back in March this year, spent a bunch of time in various BookOff’s and have a variety of manga volumes now, so Im going to pick 1 or 2 of those to read through
I’ve been participating in every challenge since a long time ago, but last time I failed almost immediately due to life… I want to get back on the challenge train and fall is my favorite season so here I am. I might not be able to update daily but I’ll try to do it semi-regularly at least.
I’m going to join the challenge as well this autumn, for more accountability in the reading side as well. Lately I have been mainly focusing on the NHK easy articles, I might try to read old books from the beginner book club as well at some point for some diversity !
I hope this is the beginning of me going to a lot of challenges to build my Japanese even higher
So I ended up missing the Summer challenge, and did some reading, but a lot less than the every day pace I was doing for the first 6 months of this year.
Almost certainly I won’t do every day for 90 days, what with… christmas, but at least for the the first two months I want to hit every day and then the last month I’ll see what I do.
As far as the goals I set for myself this year, I need to finish 4 manga (easy) and 2 novels (a bit faster, but still feels doable). For the manga I have a bunch of physical copies of Frieren volumes to read, and maybe I’ll catch up with the witch hat atelier club. For the novels, it’s probably the next two junior novels of 本好き. Also I think for the listening time, I’ll mostly be doing games which are dual purpose. I’ll probably mention them here as well, but I won’t count them as reading if they’re the only thing I do.
I’m not very active on the forum, but I tried the summer challenge and keeping track of my reading motivated me to read more, so here I am again. For now I’ll just continue with the series I couldn’t finish during the last challenge.
