I’ve always been bad at participating in challenges, so who knows what will happen…
But I read Japanese most days for my work (I’m planning to count that), and I was thinking I would make a little push to read some fiction this season, starting with the intermediate book club’s next pick. Maybe this will help motivate me to make that effort.
First day of the challenge I was lazy I just finished the second game in the Another Code Recollection for Nintendo Switch. In other words I am done with the collection now and can play something else.
Another Code Recollection
I believe that the initial game was exceptional, as I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the mansion while solving intriguing puzzles. Additionally, the narrative captivated me, and Ashley’s character truly stood out. However, the second installment lacked the engaging riddles found in its predecessor; instead, it primarily focused on running around and conversing with various characters. Unfortunately, the storyline did not hold up to the first game’s standards either.
The japanese in it was easy around N3 level the documents you got for collecting cranes are a little harder than the discussions in the main game and unlike the normal game text don’t have any furigana.
All in all it was a pretty fun experience and not as long and repetive as other games. I would recommend it to people who want to play a game in japanese.
Day 1: Struggling with extreme mental issues, so only managed to read 1 page today with half-focus, but I am going to read a bit of manga later, probably. So that’ll be day 1. Hopefully my anxiety settles a bit because I can’t focus on anything~
So after watching Frieren episode 13 for the listening practice, I started the Frieren manga volume 4 and it’s basically at the same point in the story which is a nice alignment. Just a quick one though, only a single chapter, but getting the ball rolling.
Not the strongest start to the challenge - today ran away with me a bit, and then I ended up working a bit late too so I didn’t start reading until about 1am. I always count a day of these challenges as being from when I wake up until when I go to sleep though, instead of the day ending at midnight, to allow for my weird work schedule.
I didn’t do too badly once I actually started reading though, other than it taking a bit longer than usual because I was tired.
I read chapter 188 of Shadows House.
Continuing with 逆転裁判。Finally out of the courtroom and back in the field. Forgot how annoying some of these investigation segments can be in terms of adventure game logic (do X and Y character appears… in a seemingly unrelated fashion). Thankfully it’s a lot easier than, say, old LucasArts or Sierra games.
Began and finished the latest 今日から始める幼なじみ11, a nice easy read which still took a bit longer than I was hoping, though I was reading it pretty casually.
Belated home post! Have already started the challenge - essentially a continuation of the last one.

I’ll continue to read along with the book clubs I’m in, plus dip in and out of the ABBC/BBC/IBC. I also need to try to read a few more English books to keep up my goal this year.
I read one whole page of CCS today for the ABBC, but it was a very very hard page so I’m fine with that! Goal of 2 pages tomorrow and maybe a news article if it’s slow at work
Today was much more of a listening day than a reading day, but I managed to finish off Frieren Vol. 2!
(Will also be relaxing with some Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom in 日本語)
Tomorrow will be an even busier day, but I hope to read some ダンジョン飯 1巻 to catch up with the book club.
still not doing great (i think i have a mild flu?) but we’re getting there! gonna read the shogi book and 3月のライオン side by side, it’s helping! yesterday’s lost judgment section was all plot so i’ll probably be doing side content for a while (edit: the plot begged to differ)
