Second time joining this challenge, I had a lot of fun the first time around so let’s continue.
Every day, I read two episodes of Satori Reader and play a Visual Novel.
Every week I do my Book Club assignments and if I’ve finished them I read something else, usually a past book club or something I’ve seen someone write about that they like. I have a list with everything I want to read (currently 150+ manga / novels), that I have ordered by Natively order that I slowly go through.
Thanks for organizing again!
I’ve removed the tag in front of Mods in the second post because when I edited it to add my home post, it asked me if I was sure that I wanted to notify 6 people, not sure if there are going to get a notification after each edit if we leave the tag…
I’ll be continuing from the previous thread with more samurai action by reading 新書太閤記 by 吉川英治, currently on Volume IX. Maybe I’ll actually finish the whole thing this time, I should hope!
I also really need to get looking into a VN of sorts, I’ve been meaning to do that for awhile now.
頑張って reading friends!

Big thanks to @windupbird for hosting these threads!
thanks also to @javerend, I am nabbing that cute calendar idea
This is my…what, 9th challenge? So basically I’ve been doing these for 2 straight years, time flies. As always way more excited about it that I have any reason to be! But fall (autumn?) always seems to me like a particularly suitable season for reading. The leaves are still mostly green where I live so there’s still some time to get ready.
I don’t have any particular goals for the challenge right now, except maybe finishing コップクラフト. I might join some clubs but we’ll see. I’ll update as I figure things out I guess.
Hello! I am just a simple beginner but I hope to read consistently in the coming months so I thought I would try joining this challenge. Traditionally my English language reading trails off at the end of the year as the weather starts to get hotter so I imagine I will struggle with motivation for Japanese too. My goal is to continue reading manga for enjoyment and confidence building.
Time to pretend it’s my favourite season again! I’ll be attempting to finish two books before the end of the challenge: コンビニ人間 (currently at 50%) and 夜のピクニック. I’m approaching the most important exams of my life thus far so time is not on my side, but I’ll do my best to read somewhat consistently!
I’ve participated twice now and it’s been super effective for me! So of course I’m going to continue! My manga backlog percentage read went up about 10% during the summer challenge. Hoping to see even more than that this time since I’ll have more time available.
I’m taking the N2 this December so I need to focus on some reading practice for that as well. I have the 新完全マスター N2 Reading book which I would like to get through a significant chunk of.
I’ll be joining again. I expect fall to be much lighter workload at my job after summer nearly burnt me out, which leaves me mentally freer to do stuff. Plus with the holidays I have a lot more time to myself.
I just joined WaniKani after studying Japanese for ~12 years. I passed the N5 years ago but have been stuck in a nebulous N4 void for a loooong time, and it’s time I busted out of it. All September I’ve devoted myself to getting back up to speed, and now I’m ready to bust past my previous roadblocks.
To that end it’s time to stop just flash cards and drills and get into actual reading, listening, and speaking!
Since I track my reading in my study log anyway, I thought it would be nice to join this challenge again. But unfortunately my motivation is generally low at the moment, so I will keep it simple with “only” checkmarks this time around.
Goal:
I wish to read more and more books/light novels (instead of only manga). Currently I am reading コンビニ人間 and 本好きの下剋上 with book clubs, and I am not sure about the schedule at the moment, but maybe I can even finish a book during this challenge. This would be nice.
I still have a gigantic backlog of reading material, there is no other way but to join this challenge. This year I think I only missed reading for three days.
rua’s home post
I’m excited to be joining one of the forum’s “[blank] every day” challenges for the first time! Like many people, this is my favorite season, and the weather finally shifting where I live into autumnal colors, smells, and temperatures has got me motivated.
Currently Reading: デキる猫は今日も憂鬱1、よつばと!3、はなものがたり1
Goals & Anticipations
Continue working through my Reading Level+1 Challenge list
Read はなものがたり with the LGBTQ+/GSRM Book Club (starting 10/14)
Play どうぶつの森 e +
絵描き魔女 Instagram captions
So many plus signs in my reading these days!
Most of these are pretty self-explanatory, except maybe the last one. I follow an artist on Instagram (ekakimajo) who always writes lovely, poetic captions on her posts. When I first followed her, I basically couldn’t understand a thing, but over this past year, I’ve noticed that I can read them more and more, little by little, whenever they show up on my timeline. I rarely understand them completely (partially due to the poetic nature and partially due to my own lack of vocab/grammar knowledge) but her captions are always very soft and heartwarming, just like her art. I’ve decided to make them count for days when I run out of energy or time for the other materials.
In general, I’m going to go pretty light on my self-expectations. Reading every day is something I want to do, but sometimes struggle to make time for–so for now, that’s all there is to the goal.

thanks @javerend for the calendar decoration inspo
I’ve never done this before! But having bought some cute beginners’ manga from the Kinokuniya in Japantown, San Francisco the other day, I’m going to push myself to do the challenge to get going. Thanks for running this! And I love the calendar.
Aynnej’s Home Post
I’d like to up my reading game, and this seems like the place to do it. However, I’ll be taking a break Oct. 30 - Nov. 9 to attend a writing residency.
For material, I’ll use NHK News Web Easy and a graded reader called 美知子の星空 (Michiko’s Starry Sky). I also have a textbook reader (with vocab lists, grammar explanations, audio) called Japanese Stories for Language Learners that I might dip into, but mostly I’d like to try reading without the formal instruction, just to see how I’ll do.
Thanks for putting this together, @windupbird, and good luck everyone!
my fourth one, amazing how quickly it’s flown by! thanks windupbird for hosting another one of these, good luck to returning folks and hello to the new faces! looking forward to once again mining everyone’s posts for new things to read/play
a lot of my goals for this time are rolled over from last time because 逆転検事2 took a lot longer than expected, but that’s not such a bad thing!
make progress on my physical tbr. this mainly means the rest of jujutsu kaisen from roughly 10 up to vol 22 and 3月のライオン from 1 up to vol 16. maybe a book if i’m feeling adventurous, すきまのおともだちたち looks to be the simplest one i own
read a news article every weekday. did just nhk last time but might try some 朝日新聞 this time. also want to try translating a paragraph each day, or maybe a sentence if it’s giving me trouble
keep up with the 桜蘭高校 club, though depending on how my other reading goes i might read ahead
an entry of a dictionary of intermediate japanese grammar each day too. this may get adjusted.
nothing too adventurous time, just keep plodding along. my mess of a bookwalker list can wait for another time i think i got a little burnt out last time but i’ve got better tactics in place to avoid that this time (plus no jlpt to study for) so we’re good to go!
