Feeling very 日本語ができない lately and fell out of this habit at the end of spring, so maybe re-joining will help re-inspire me?

I recently got a 3DS in Japan (so everything is in Japanese) and currently playing through Ocarina of Time, which I understand maybe 60% of.

Hello! I’m excited to join in a new challenge right from the beginning. I’m fairly new to reading so my goal is to build reading and grammar study into a habit and achieve some consistency with it. I’ll try to spend at least 10-30mins daily with some sort of reading material.

I have some manga and visual novels that I bought during the initial excitement of learning a new language but haven’t touched yet :sweat_smile: and some easy-going games I’d like to try in Japanese so I might jump around a little with my materials. Some accountability is going to be very helpful to keep me on track :slight_smile:

Hey Trunky, I understand that June is part of summer, but would you mind tracking the unofficial month on the previous challenge? That way everyone’s posts for the same time period are together.

Hello, y’all

I’ve seen these threads pop up now and then but I always figured I’d wait until after level 60 to join one. But there’s no time like the present and all that.

I recently did the summer readathon and while it’s nice doing that every couple months I think to improve my reading stamina I’d like to work on daily reading instead of letting my books gather dust and scratches when it’s not a solar event. I’m pretty busy during August with a trip I’ve been planning for a while (Spain, Eclipse, first time leaving the America country, blah) but if I make it a habit I can probably read at least a little every day in July and September? Taking it a month at a time.

I’d probably start with reading more of the Harry Potter books because they’re a nice mix of approachable kids books and actual difficulty. I also have many bookwalker things on my shelves that are in various states of literary neglect because I often have weeks or days of reading followed by months of not. Consistency is key but I fumble around with hairpins because I don’t have the key.

I may miss some days if and when stuff happens and that’s okay but I think by finally joining one of these threads I can work on the reading endurance and maybe finish some books? Let’s go!

I’ll do the post with the calendar box formatting when I get to a real computer and not the little phone box in my hands. Mobile has downsides.

As much as I love studying kanji, I’ve had an aversion to doing anything else. I’ve been telling myself over the last year to just start reading anything to no avail. We’re going to try and change that this summer! :sun:

Summer is my Japanese reading time. Once all my grades were submitted, I set myself a goal of reading every day, but have had many distractions. Participated in the Readathon last weekend and that reminded me that I love よつばと, and that if I read about her every day, I won’t only get better at Japanese; I’ll also just be happier.

Currently playing through the first Ace Attorney game in Japanese. It’s probably above my skill level, but I’ve played it enough in English to know what’s going on already, so I’m finding it fun even if I have to look up a lot of words. I’m on case 2 and have picked up a lot already though! Right now my goal is to finish the game within this challenge.
