From what I’ve seen this game contains roughly twice as much text as FF1. As a result I intend to set a weekly pace roughly 1.5x to 2x faster than the previous club.
I also don’t plan to transcribe everything in the spreadsheet because that will be too much work (both because of the increased amount of text, and also because the dialogue trees are more complex in this game and it’s more work to exhaust every NPC’s dialogue). I’m not sure what to do instead, maybe just vocab sheets like many book clubs use? Plus list of items and spells?
We also need to decide on the start date. We will finish the FF1 club on the last week of November, do we just want a one week break before starting on 2 or do we take a longer break to give participants a bit of rest and also in order to let people catch up if they fell behind?
i know i fell behind almost immediately
i’m just so sleepy
while i suppose i have the time, i certainly don’t have the energy to play any games
i need to just play, even if only for a few minutes per day
I will say, I do rely on the transcripts in the spreadsheet with Yomitan to get me through the dialogue. I imagine transcribing all of the dialogue must be a ton of work, I’m wondering if just doing the required dialogue would still be a lot? Or if there is a script already on the internet that could be pulled from? Or maybe cutting me off is a good thing and just using the vocab list lol.
I reckon you could just make a poll of start dates. With multiple choice even. Just need to pick a range of dates for the poll. Sounds like earliest would be Dec 6 (for a 1 week break), and latest could be, idk, Jan 3rd or 11th? IDK if people would have holiday preferences such as getting it started for the holidays or waiting until Jan.
Ok I’ve still only really played one Saga game but it was amazing. bit of stolen valor. I just really like everything I’ve heard about Kawazu’s general game design approach.
Things are good to go at any time on my end. I expect to have the most ridiculous version of anyone here: I’m using real famicom hardware to play original through my CRT, but I’ve gotten a setup to allow me to play a modded rom on it so I can apply Final Fantasy II Restored, the bug fix half only. Original FF2 but things should work a bit better as they were intended to
Yay, Final Fantasy II!
As far as I know I have never played it and know nothing about, so this’ll be fun
Would be definitely nice to have an open spreadsheet at the very least, so we can contribute.
I did type a lot of dialog from FFI and that was when I was learning the most, so I’d be willing to try again for FFII (not promising to keep it up the whole time though)
I was thinking that too, would be weird if there weren’t.
As for the start date, I’m ready to start as soon as possible but can also wait, does that help?
I agree with a poll with a bunch of options. The end of the year holiday is a tough one, some people might have less time because of it, some people more time, some people go to Japan… Good luck with taking a decision!
Well, there was a sale for final fantasy games on Switch, so I bought the FF2 Pixel Remaster (and wishlisted everything else)
I love how the game icons look on the home screen…
Still vote to start in January because December tends to be very busy, especially if someone like me likes to take part in various Christmas events running in other communities.
As controversial as it was, I remember actually loving the combat system in this one, so I’m really looking forward to revisiting it in the remaster.
(I’m also a bit surprised that the thread icon is not a rose Could help in differentiating with the FF1 threads unless it’s intentional)
I’ll make the poll next week but I think January is a good plan. I’m only halfway through my filthy preplaying of 2. I must say that I’m a bit concerned about the game’s difficulty compared to FF1. My Famicom playthrough has been challenging, it’s a lot easier to die in this one. I also regularly do grinding sessions to raise my stats ahead of the big dungeons.
Hopefully the tweaks in the pixel remaster will make it a bit more casual for those who don’t want to spend time studying the arcane stat system. Maybe enabling the cheats will be useful for those who want to focus on the Japanese.
I want to start today but I will go along with the majority and resist filthy preplaying. Every description of the game being offputting makes me more excited.
