i thought seperate and separate were two different words (seperate being “these two things are seperate”, and separate being “i’ll separate these magnets”), and now i know that seperate was never a word to begin with
Makes me spell in American English
Pretty much everything under the sun. Votes for bureau, separate, and calendar seconded. I’m a grown ass adult who is chastised frequently by an internet program. I think I need to go back to elementary school…
And here I just add my common misspellings or even some (non-correct) short version of an answer. Illogical argument? Too long, ia is fine. I won’t remember my nice little shortcut unless I remember the meaning anyway.
Otherwise caleshtenics (calistenics? calestincs? Surely, I can figure out the spelling without checking because I totally know how to pronounce it correctly too, and I don’t just slur it… ) would have been a word I would have learnt to spell, instead it is just cal (synonyms for the win).
Isn’t that a mood?
I feel like there are those words I vaguely knew but didn’t have to actually learn what they meant until they came up in a vocabulary list.
Like 会計 (check/bill, the thing you get at a restaurant. I almost never go to restaurants, so I had no idea what exactly it was aside from that it was financial.)
Have you tried that script that lets you pass answers marked incorrect as correct? It might be useful for you since WaniKani isn’t supposed to be a spelling quiz (as far as I know)
Looks like something possible (and easy) with a UserScript. Otherwise, Inspect Element, and edit the attribute.
Otherwise, I would without doubt still opt for [Userscript] Prevent "Your answer was a bit off" answers from being accepted a.k.a. "Close But No Cigar"
Definitely bureau and bureaucrat. Also admonish. I always had it in my head as admondish for some reason.
Hey! Wanted to update you on this and let you know that we agree with the thinking here that ‘vermilion’ is the more common spelling of this word. We’ve now added ‘vermilion’ as the primary meaning and added the double L ‘vermillion’ to the allow list.
Oh god I would never get anything right with that script, I don’t want to be failed, I just want a visual red line so I know I am aware of what words I cannot spell. That would be a nightmare.
I just unlocked ‘Conjugation’. I am adding application to the synonyms list asap lol.
@wanikani Does spellcheck really need to be disabled?
That account’s not checked so often so you’re usually better off @ ing @Mods
“larynx” is a recent one for me, must admit I had no idea that there was a word for it other than voice box
I am yet to spell this right.
Also lol.
I remember the spelling of that one in three chunks: medi + terra + nean => pertaining to middle earth
Fun fact: crossing your extended index fingers in front of you (kinda like you’re warding off a vampire) is common-man Japanese sign-language for 「お会計ください」
As a non-native English speaker, I took a wild guess at “exersize” every time
excercize… exerzise… whatever, it comes back green
Bureaucrat hands down, and I still get it wrong.
I use anki mode, so not a problem for me.
But about meaning, yes, several new English words I have learned here, latest one was chaffe.
This one is useful because it is used in the family name Sato (佐藤) which is one of the most common Japanese names. Which happens to be my surname.
