I’ve seen this idea in a couple of posts. Any chance to burned items to manually or in reviewing automatically be unburned? I’ve have a life sub now, and I’m taking learning new kanji slowly, but when reviewing burned items, I see that there some that I don’t fully remember, and it would be nice to study it again. Thanks for reading.
I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking, but you can go to any kanji/radical/vocabulary’s page and manually unburn it yourself (scroll to the very bottom of the page).
Here’s an example:
Click resurrect and it will be back to Apprentice 1 (i think).
There is no system in WK that brings them back in an SRS cycle. You have to do it manually. I am also not aware of a script or app that will do it. Well, I guess export to Anki might work.
The idea is that you should get eventually away from WK and start reading books, etc. and get exposure that way.
There is/was a user script that included bulk unburn functionaility. I think it was called something like “WK Burn Manager”. No idea if it works/still works as I have never used it myself.
If you don’t like to download user scripts, then this is an alternative you could use. It’s a long read, but the details permit you to follow what @wct is saying and how to use it. Good luck
That is still a manual way to do ti.
it would be way nicer if they were integrated in the regular review cycle. Maybe with customisable amounts of burned items per review and time scale.
Forum says its broken. [Userscript] Burn Manager (Review / Resurrect / Retire) - #108 by rfindley
I know. This is meant as a last alternative if there is no other ‘nicer’ way of doing it which there doesn’t appear to be, i.e., something is better than nothing (for whoever wants to do it manually). It’s up to them.
Additionally, you could download the Self-Study Quiz (SSQ) and Self-Study Hide Info (SSHI) scripts. With SSHI, you can go to various item pages on WK (e.g., items by type, level, etc.), filter them so that only burned items are shown, and then click on the ‘Quiz’ button to quiz yourself on the group of items in that section of the page (e.g., Level 10 Kanji). This method might be much quicker than manually resurrecting each burned item to study.
Unfortunately, a change in WK partially broke the SSQ script, causing some icons to become invisible. This userstyle fixes the issue, but you’ll need the ‘Stylus’ browser extension to use it.
I think you could try KaniWani and I was just thinking about their option to untick the ‘Burn reviews’ in their Settings to ‘Disable to reschedule Enlightened reviews, forever…’.
Right now, I’ve made my settings to not sync/follow my WK progress, kinda like a review of sorts. But seeing that my wkstats Projections say that it takes me about 8 years to finish from Level 1 to Level 60 if I keep up with my slow pace (3 years more to go if all goes well), I think I should take it easy and just let them burn naturally in my second revision in KW.
To give you context, I’m Level 27 in WK and at Level 10 in KW. Hope that helps
Thanks! I appears to work to restrict to burned items only, but since it uses the same SRS intervals as WK, essentially, I would have to do them all over again.
There’s also KameSame which is similar to KaniWani. Also, have you tried the userscripts that I linked? It’s how I personally self-study items and it’s also good for studying burned items.
Incidentally, I remembered KS at the time and tried it. It works to limit the items just as KW, but here too, you have to start them from scratch (within the KS SRS) again. KS, like WK, also seems to hide burned items forever, whereas KW has an option to keep them at Enlightened.
But have you tried the userscripts that I recommended? They could be a way to study burned items, as mentioned earlier. I don’t personally use KS, just mentioned it since it’s similar to KW.
Ah, sorry! Not yet. I do not use any scripts so far, so first I have to wrap my head around installation etc.
