Played more Steins;Gate again today! I definitely think it’s the hardest thing for me that I’m reading right now, though I think that’s mostly because it dips more into areas of vocabulary I’m not as familiar with than all my mystery nonsense does it’s still doable though, just has more of a tendency to slow down from time to time. Not too bad though!

In lieu of reading 3月のライオン, I did decide to start re-watching it today, but I’m not worrying about doing jp subs or anything

• 新完全マスター pg 18 → 20 - nice easier section to get back into it
• どうぶつの森e+ - since it’s been almost a year since I first tried playing this, I figured I’d pull it back out and use it as something to kind of chill with. Made a neat little 博物館 checklist spreadsheet for all the 化石, 名画, 魚, and 虫, and importantly I decided to not add pictures, so I have to actually read the names when I get something instead of just instantly recognize the icons I pulled all the data from one of the most 2000s looking websites of all time but it looked accurate as I was skimming through it.

For my Spanish reading, according to my kindle, I am currently 29% of the way through Cantoras, so with that plus Sí, si es contigo, I read about 1.3 books in Spanish during the challenge. Not bad!

I’ve been a bit busy with non-Japanese writing projects, so I’ve fallen a bit behind on my translations, but I’m working on catching up now. I did finally complete Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling’s February 18 show (the translation was long enough, it had to be split into two posts ), which was nearly as long as the Korakuen show the week before, hence how long it took for me to finish it.

I also just completed the TJPW portion of Keiji Mutoh’s retirement show on February 22. Beyond proud of the TJPW women for getting to have a match in the Tokyo Dome . As Shoko pointed out in her comments afterward, TJPW started as a dark match at a DDT show at Ryogoku Kokugikan (and eventually were able to run that venue on their own), and now they’ve gotten far enough to have an under match at a Pro Wrestling NOAH show at the Tokyo Dome, so TJPW one day running a Tokyo Dome show all by themselves doesn’t feel entirely out of the question…

NOAH fans get spoiled by having transcripts of all the post-match comments up for free on the NOAH site. Sadly, TJPW doesn’t do the same for their shows, so I have to pay for access to shupro’s mobile site to get transcriptions the rest of the time.

I also put together a Notion account, including compiling my regular book reading progress and goals (not a lot of activity on that page ), and a page for study and translation resources, which reflects a lot more of my efforts.

By my own count, I completed 11 translations during this challenge!

As usual, I’ll be shifting gears and focusing on listening during the off-month, though I’ll be keeping up with my translations and my normal wrestling watching habits, both of which are a combination of reading and listening practice. So I guess I’ll see some of you over in the listen every day challenge?

BU$TAFELLOWS

Ended up reading for a little while. シュウ looks really hot in a suit/tux. For realz.

Also realized that this is my fourth challenge in a row. My first full year. I’ll probably do a proper retrospective at the end of March, but I’ve come a long way.

A year ago (April/May 2022) I was reading through graded readers and finding some of them challenging. I also tackled reading Yotsubato. Reading a few pages each day, certainly not chapters. Nor do I think I would have comfortably read a whole manga volume in one sitting like I did recently.

So if anyone wonders if these challenges work, the answer is yes! And no, you don’t have to read every day, my version of “every day” is many days each week (on average). I think I skipped almost two months last summer. And had to skip a couple of weeks in January due to a business trip that needed all my brain cells.

Putting in the time, bit by bit, does make a difference. This year I will finish two VNs. In fact, I should be finishing both next challenge. At least if I can keep to reading schedules and catch up the part I’m skipping with B$ right now. Also depending on if my reading partner and I can both keep to our Loopers schedule. Being just two people who read together, we can easily adjust as needed.

I am not allowed to use my phone at all (because it has a camera) so that means paper book and no dictionary lookups, which only works with very very few of the books I want to read. Luckily the cats book is one of them. (which is amazing in its own right for me, on top of that )

• 成(な)れの果(は)て = what one once was. It’s 成(な)れ like in 慣(な)れる, not 成(な)り, or perhaps just potential form.
• 突拍子(とっぴょうし)もない = freakish; crazy; astounding
• 俄然(がぜん) = abruptly
• 文献(ぶんけん) = references (books)
• 支離滅裂(しりめつれつ) = incoherence; inconsistency. Sounds like butt (尻(しり)) being blown to shreds to me. Of course that’s not a real meaning of 滅裂(めつれつ).

Short story and 1 chapter of a novel in English

Today was a bit meh. I’m paying my monthly lady tax. The English reading I did, didn’t engage me terribly much (otherwise I wouldn’t have read just one chapter), but I wasn’t sure anything could really engage me today.

Hormones suck sometimes…

But at least I could get into B$. I really wanted to finish chapter 4, and I did! I’m not planing to jump into the Limbo route and finish it really quickly, instead I plan to spend the next week unlocking all other routes and join the read along again with the club for Shuu. And… I look forward to that, maybe, a bit more than I should.

I read more of Little Busters End of Refrain. Somehow I already adapted to the difficulty of the manga. Anyway the manga is awesome I pretty much like all the characters. I should probably pick up the visual novel. Now I’m a little bit sad that the challenge is already over but I will of course continue to read every day.

Just dropping a very simple summary here of the conclusion of my very first read every day challenge winter edition!

I was pretty happy with my progress in January with 29 out of 31 days, but unfortunately I lagged behind in February getting caught up with real life resulting in only 16 out of 28 days read. And that makes 76% of January and February. If I were still in school that’s barely passing. Such a shame… See home post here.

I only finished one series during this challenge which is Kona’s Big Adventure on Satorireader. I got halfway through Teasing master-Takagi-san Volume 1 and I’m currently reading Ruri Dragon Volume 1 with the ABBC. I will be continuing with the ABBC during this off month and maybe read more of NHK Easy News. I will likely not be update every day here though and will just be using my study log to track my reading.

It was such a pleasure to join this challenge even though I wasn’t able to fully commit 100%! I am so impressed by everyone in this challenge and hope I can have as much diligence as you guys! Also loved seeing the summary charts by @omk3 and @NicoleIsEnough (you changed your username!). So prettyyyy!

I hope I can partake in the next challenge with everyone if real life doesn’t get in the way!
