有(あ)り体(てい)に = frankly

BU$TAFELLOWS

Spent a lot of time on B$ today. I went through and unlocked all the routes, so I can start them whenever. So now I’m caught up. I’m not planing to try and read all of Limbo’s route over the next week.

Instead, I’ll read the weekly amount of Orange tomorrow and then get back into Loopers I think. Can’t let my reading partner get ahead of me. Hehe. xD I’m already ahead on Komi-san, so will see if she gets some space too, or if I’ll just wait until the club catches back up with me. I think I’ve read about half the chapters, so will take a couple of weeks, maybe?

Feels good to be caught up with all my book clubs, even if it is because I have skipped a part of B$ temporarily.

finally got around to trying サクラ、サク - Sakisaka Io’s new manga. I stopped reading 思い、思われ、ふり、ふられ at some point and didn’t check in on her works for a while so this was a fun surprise! Read 2 chapters (half of vol 1) - it seems sweet so far.

Not yet. I’m starting with the mangaka’s older works and moving toward newer ones, so I’ll begin with Strobe Edge (which has been on my “to start reading” list for a month or two now…)

started 2.43 ch 2.3 SCARY GAME, reading 8 pages and leaving off on pg 193. I learned that the line Yuni mutters at the end of his and Chika’s little exchange where Chika tells him he needs to catch up to and surpass Mimura Subaru on his own and then calls him an idiot, “You Tōkyōites really know how to make your insults hurt…” (he said バカ, which to the 標準語-speaking Chika is just normal, but in Fukui like in Kansai, it’s the other way around with アホ being the normal one and バカ being the stronger one lmao) was anime-original. I’m kind of sad. I wanted the whole exchange to be in the novel. Anyway, I’m excited for the rest of this chapter, since it’s what was covered by ep 8 a.k.a. my favorite ep!

I missed doing an update yesterday, but didn’t miss my reading! Got super busy with some irl stuff and then the friends wanted to go back to the arcade. Was exhausted when I got back and took a nap, i’ve kind of lost track of what “day” my body clock is on right now so I figured i’d just combine em. time is fake

I’ve been busier than expected, and pretty tired out, so I haven’t yet finished this week’s reading for 半落ち. I’m maybe halfway done? I’m hoping I’ll have time on Sunday to just finish the book out.

I’ve also been reading a bit of 銀座警察殺人課 before bed and it’s not even remotely surprising that only 2 people on Bookmeter have read this and no reviews on Amazon. It’s very, very average. Makes for good bedtime reading as I don’t get too invested and want to read on. So far what we know is that a man showed up at the police station asking to see the station head, then suddenly collapses and has to be taken to the hospital where he’s declared dead. He isn’t carrying any ID, but he does have a match box full of 覚醒剤 () and his dying words are possibly 「エイスノスモウ」or something like that. The only witness isn’t totally sure what he heard. But the cops have since decided that he must have been trying to tell them that a sumo wrestler who frequents the fancy club that the match box is from has AIDS (エイズ, not エイス but well we’re already stretching so might as well…). They eventually find out the man’s identity and he was busted for drug peddling a long long time ago but has had a clean record since. No leads. So now the cops are talking about how they can investigate this fancy club.

I also have an 赤川次郎 book by my bed but I so far have been more in the mood for the 90s ダイイングメッセージ cop drama.

More Steins;Gate again! Not a whole lot as I ended up fairly productive with other things, but it continues to be intriguing in various ways

That’s true, I’m probably being pickier about it than I need to be haha. It’s the same as like specific fish species or other random stuff I only have a vague sense of in English, like if I only kind of know what it is in English, why should I need to have such a better grasp of it in Japanese? And yet a good reminder though.

I mean I’m always a proponent of trying to read whatever you want and see how it goes, so from that standpoint sure! If you enjoy it that’s really all that matters, but I do think Steins;Gate is going to be pretty lookup heavy coming from really any wanikani level to be honest. Comparing to other things I’ve read, I think Steins;Gate covers a pretty interesting breadth of language, because of the sciencey stuff yes, but also lots of slang (especially like 2000s otaku slang that it generally defines for you) and the way certain characters talk as I’m sure you can imagine, being familiar with Steins;Gate That’s not to say you can’t do it, you certainly could, it’d just probably be pretty slow going for a while. But if you like doing it it’d certainly be a good learning experience, and having knowledge of the story already would give you a boost for sure. So really it’s up to you and your learning style and what you want to dedicate your time to

I stopped buying Ihr Hertz because it’s a pain to get rid of and so I haven’t been keeping up with Saezuru. This new volume is fantastic though!! I had to skim to later chapters because it was so exciting! I can’t get over Yashiro shoving the idiot out the door in order to pull Domeki in!!! Also the way the spice is going down!!

Also I went to the bookstore and got several books and I’m hoping one of them helps me stick to this challenge better. Let’s enjoy the seasons has a page for every day of the year with a lot of info about Japanese culture and suggestions of things to do/eat/try. also it has the infamous Japan has 24 seasons line on the cover For 3/3 one of the things it says is that a long time ago, people (girls?) used to take the dolls outside on this day to show them spring scenery.

Hold the f-ing phone, went to count the pages (sorry drafted most of this yesterday) and there’s not only no page numbers, but the “table of contents” just says 囀(さえず)る鳥(とり)は羽(は)ばたかない. What is the point? Is my book defective? There’s no chapters even listed. That’s not normal right?

Yeah that was my problem when I first started reading Manga, I was like “Damn, this is hard to understand.” and then I realized in English I didn’t care about 100% understanding it either… so outside of knowing the word, I don’t need to understand it. But it makes sense we do that because those first 2500 words are words we should have a deep understanding of, like water, fire, etc.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, I think I’ll leave as a goal to be achieved in the not so distant future. Right now I do have some difficult with Conan, and there are a lot of look up words if I want to understand 100% of what’s written on the page. What I ended up not doing. I tend to avoid these intensive research, it usually doesn’t bring me “more knowledge” and just adds to the frustration.
