Moving along at a glacial pace, but loving it somehow? I don’t know why I’m so struggle times with this novel sometimes, like the sentences won’t compute for some reason The grammar is weird to me. I still want to keep reading it though, like I’m tired but I wanna know more, curse my bad reading skills

Richard’s 日本語 is in fact 上手, if anyone was wondering, Seigi appears to think that Richard has a better vocabulary than him so My favorite is when Richard whips out 紳士 and Seigi’s like ? and Richard is like “…gentleman” like please, why is that adorable, why does it work xD And Seigi almost tells his mom (via email) about the ridiculously beautiful human he helped today, but he does not. Also cute. I like them. I’m excited for Seigi to hopefully go get his ring appraised (but also why is he keeping his ring in the refrigerator, I’d like an answer to that mystery too)

I think what I might do is try to get through a chapter of the light novel, then read the same chapter in the manga version (I took a quick glance, and it seems like the manga follows the novel very closely, with each light novel chapter being 2 manga chapters). Unfortunately the first volume of the manga (which is all I have) only includes the first 2 chapters of the light novel, but honestly it will probably take me a while to get through those at this pace

More than 3/4 of the way through, Six Four finally picks up again… and then grows tedious again. Well, it carried me through quite a bit, though. I may even finally finish it this month.

I read 29 pages of さいとう市立さいとう高校野球部, reading ch 6 and leaving off on pg 172. lmao everything always comes back to onsens with Yuusaku. He’s talking about running (because of baseball), and it turns into onsens. Ah, go back, go back. He talks about running, and it turns into onsens again. Wait, this is supposed to be about running! Usually you’d think the MC of a baseball book would be a 野球バカ, but he’s an 温泉バカ. Also, for someone who ostensibly only likes chubby girls, he thinks (and even says, to him) some awfully gay things about his childhood friend Ichirou. Like, a lot. At this point I’m pretty sure it surpasses what a straight girl might say about another girl. Not as much as onsens, but this is also one of those things his brain keeps going back to.

(Rin-chan’s Saitou’s coach, and Murata was their middle school coach, who’s the worst coach they ever had and excluded Yuusaku from club activities for refusing to dye his hair back to its natural color… when it already was and had never been anything other than its natural color. He was pissed that this kid is quarter-Russian and has naturally brown hair and wouldn’t let him play. And most of the club took Murata’s side. And then when Yuusaku retired, Murata told him to keep going on runs, which prompted Yuusaku in his narration to go on about running and onsens, which eventually brought us back to the present, where he got [briefly, this time] distracted thinking gay thoughts about Ichirou. He’s kind of a possibly-bi, ADHD disaster lmao

(But yeah Ichirou here’s trying to convince Yuusaku to join the HS club. That the coach has not even an ounce of experience playing the sport ain’t exactly confidence-inspiring, but he apparently makes a good one nonetheless.)

Also I’m very impressed by Ichirou’s ability to just speak backwards like that.

Today the reading was a little more rough. I had been feeling rather confident lately, so it was about time I got knocked down a few pegs. Lots of new kanji and polite expressions appeared in this volume, along with a lot of N4 grammar points. I stared at なら (just one example) like an idiot for awhile until I decided to look it up online. Now, I wish I had been keeping track of all the grammar points I have learned this week, as I’m sure the list would be extensive. Overall, it was another good day, though, and I’m excited to jump back into it tomorrow!

Approach for this challenge 🔖

Hello again! So great to be joining this challenge again! Winter challenge went fine for me, and I got into the habit of daily reading back again, but for the spring season… it didn’t go so well… but I’m trying not to feel discouraged, and keep on trying! We all have days that are different or that will have plans and routine thwarted and I just need to get better at coping with that…
on that note, and as about what I’ll be reading, I want to carry on with what I started in spring and finally finish some of those resources clear out those shelves yes!, but I also want to read new things and spice things up a little too! However, I have been having a hard time reading manga and novels from mobile screen bc of the eye strain and headaches, so I should come up with a solution about that… I’ll keep on reading my fiction in English and my native language and will be counting that in as well because for me, that’s daily reading as well, and reading in my target languages is going to be taking place at the same time, and most likely will have to alternate days, because I have come to find that it’s hard to combine both… In other words the focus this challenge is on reading daily in general, and have fun with it! And maybe but by bit I can increase the amount and time spent reading daily! That’s the goal!

I would also like to hear if there are recommendations to any cute manga for easier reading days!

7月8日 Started and got a few chapters of Fruits Basket 10 read in the middle of the night. We’re hitting some of the interesting and darker plots now, so the rest of the series should be a quick read. Luckily there’s still several volumes left, so I’ll still have daily backup reading for a while!

I’m thinking when I’m finished, I’ll join the Ouran High School Host Club reading group. I just want to get FB done first before the promotion ends and Line Manga pulls it from the free daily reading rotation. I certainly didn’t anticipate that with the PokeSpecial manga, and I regret it.

Also finally finished rereading the prologue of 予言の島 and am feeling very satisfied that I managed to make sense of it the second time around. Still a chapter behind, but it sounds like the readings will get easier so I don’t feel too bad.

another small read today, with one fate episode and one 15 minute chunk of kiwami 2.

the fate episode was カイラナ’s and was all about surfing, which was weirdly difficult. i think it’s cos there was a lot more prose than normal. there were also fish/sea puns abound (including a カニ one, ofc) and ルリア in a slightly awkward-looking sunhat.

finished the main plot of kiwami 2 yesterday (melodramatic, as per, but also ouch. ryuji and kaoru deserved time together as siblings god damn it, we were robbed) so have started majima’s side story thingy. i missed him

Days 6-7 Progress:
Monkeys!¡
週に一度クラスメイトを買う話２ ～ふたりの時間、言い訳の五千円～ - 38.21 → 73.56%

Heavy bit of reading for the last few days.

I finally managed to finish a route (霧灯(むとう) ユキ’s) in Monkeys!¡ It ended up being really, really bad. Unironically felt like the Mourinho taking off his headphones in disgust meme image after finishing the route… it felt like the writers had no idea what to do with her character after the common route so they took some half-formed ideas and jerry-rigged a story out of them. Needless to say, my desire to keep going has been completely spoiled (as is my trust in the scenario writer), especially considering the next route I was planning to read is apparently even worse than this one…

Greener pastures beckoned to me with the continuation of 週(しゅう)クラ, which has been a marked improvement over the last volume because the mainly-caustic relationship of the first volume has been tempered by some actual outward displays of affection towards one another. 仙台(せんだい) also has one major thing over 島村(しまむら) in that she is actually pretty proactive and doesn’t keep the other heroine at arm’s length for like half the series the way the latter does, which makes this a more immediately enjoyable series for me than あだしま.

Another fun fact is that 週(しゅう)クラ released a PV (here) a few weeks ago with the heroines’ voices provided by the same seiyuu as this season’s G-Witch. Who knows, if this series ends up getting another an anime adaptation (it certainly has gained a lot of traction over the last few months!), maybe the two will be able to reprise their roles as the gay power couple of the season!

Word(s) of the Day: 長槍(ながやり) (long spear, pike) and 短槍(たんそう) (short spear). Kinda dumb but I like how the former being the four-syllable kun’yomi reading and the latter being the two-syllable on’yomi reading reflects the respective lengths of their weapons.

Been meaning to say, I’m watching this with a lot of interest! I hope you enjoy. That’s more or less the only Ace Attorney game I never played, on account of its lack of English release (I know it got the fan patch but I never did it).

GK2 has possibly one of the best J->E fan translations of all time (complete with excellent fan voices too, including a young ProZD) so while using it as Japanese practice is always a better option if you’re willing, just reading it in English is a very valid choice as well. It’s my favorite game in the franchise (having played everything besides the Layton crossover) which is extra surprising considering it’s not even directed/written by Shu Takumi and GK2-3 and 2-4 are definitely in my top 5 of cases as well.

Most of those reads are book club reads. I just joined so many And I always feel somewhat bad that I do not participate much in the book club threads. But I am not so good at analysing the content and I do not feel confident enough to answer grammar questions yet.

We finished ロジカとラッカセイ vol. 1 this week. What a read. I really loved it and I am so happy that I joined the book club. First I wasn’t sure whether I should join…mainly because of the fact that it has no furigana and I didn’t feel as if I was already ready for this but it wasn’t as bad as feared!
Now I am eagerly waiting for the offshoot book club to start!

桜蘭高校ホスト部 was really difficult this week again. I am still not sure whether I really understood everything (I assume I did not). Maybe I should go over some of those bubbles again. - then again, the next book club week already started today…so I guess I will read those new pages first and only if I have time (and feel like it) I will go over those previous pages again. As far as I know myself, I won’t, and I’ll rather want to read other new stuff
