硝子の塔の殺人 is hugely entertaining so far I have to make myself stop reading in order to do other things with my day too (why do I need to?). Finished the first chapter and I already have a sneaking suspicion: (major spoiler if I’m right, no spoiler if I’m not ) 神津島 is actually behind the whole thing. He expected to be “murdered”, and directed everything so that a honkaku mystery plays out while he’s secretly watching behind the scenes. There never was any poison in that bottle. (As far as I know no one actually examined him, which was strange.) There are so many unused spaces in that weird tower he could be hiding (maybe the central pillar?), watching people through mirrors and stuff. A live mystery play exclusively for his enjoyment.

• アオのハコ chapter 1 pt 1 - this week’s club portion. Fun read, a few more lookups than I expected, but I haven’t read quite as much sports manga in jp as I have in english yet
• aDoBJG - started on the main entries last night and have been just kinda reading one whenever I need a quick break from other stuff so I don’t get overwhelmed by just reading like an hour straight from a grammar dictionary, made it through あとで, which i think was end of the first wk of main entries, so only 2 weeks behind now
• とある魔術の禁書目録 1 page - figured if I was gonna start looking at light novels I’d just go through the list of stuff I’ve wanted to try reading, but put off because I thought it would be too hard. This felt, definitively, still too hard lmao. Back on the shelf for now.
• 蟲師 pg 1->20 - yeah parts of this were certainly a real challenge. I’d believe that it gets easier, since a lot of this part was just ginko trying to explain what mushi are. It was a very slow read, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing with this series (get lots of time to take in the gorgeous art). I’d really want to be diligent with keeping track of new terms with this in a way I haven’t had to do with any other series yet, but it’s close to do-able. I may want to do another manga with no furigana first, though. (this would be my first full series attempt without furigana, and it’s definitely a bit of a hurdle when there’s this many word lookups)

There’s a lot of stuff I’d like to read, but I think I’ll just have to keep being patient and trust that a few more months of reading and studying will get me closer

Today I read about 6 pages of the first Orange light novel.
Although I’m only making slow progress through this, I’m really pleased with how its going. The only other light novels I’ve read are the first 2 volumes of Yoru Cafe, and I found the amount of text very intimidating! I feel much better reading Orange, not sure if thats because I’m already familiar with the story, or just that I’m better at reading now than I was when I read Yoru Cafe. Probably a bit of both

I’ve been battling with a headache all day and so I decided my reading tonight would be the last volume of the main ウテナ series. I think there’s one bonus volume not part of the main series which I’ll get to when I get to it.

I was reminded logging into the Bookwalker app though that I have the first volume of a manga made by a woman who escaped a cult. Perhaps I’ll give that a spin later…

I didn’t understand seasons lol

JoJo was really interesting!! I can’t tell if they changed the dialogue in the anime but I very much do not remember hearing a certain character saying that their berries shrank. It also used the WK vocab but written in kana, so double surprise.

I also got a rolling cover for my tub so that I can more safely read in the bath. I’m really looking forward to it and enjoying some good soaks

37 pages of 花馨る雨の名を, finishing ch 2 and leaving off on pg 69. I’ve never read Chishima Chidori before, but this is still proving to be a pretty comfortable read, like Kabei Yukako, at least in terms of known/unknown words. I’d expected it to take me a bit to get used to the writing before I could easily read 20, 30+ pages in a day.

It’s funny, 遮る showed up with the 辶 radical instead of ⻌ (I can’t even type that form) and got no furi, and then two pages later it showed up in its usual form and got furi. Okay then.

Also, one of the MCs runs a café specializing in Chinese teas, so there’s a little bit of Chinese in this chapter. 茶壺, in Japanese is read ちゃつぼ and refers to an urn that leaf tea is stored in, in Chinese is read ちゃふう and means “teapot” (which in Japanese is 急須, although apparently 茶壺(ちゃふう) are a little different from 急須).

finally finished part one of case five! there’s a lot of names in this one, and though i made notes i’m still struggling to keep track of who’s from where and whose symbol is whose. why anyone ever hangs out around an ace attorney protagonist i have no idea, the odds of getting accused of murder are so high

I caught up with the 2 main book clubs I’m doing. I’m a little behind on the dictionary but not by much, didn’t want to try reading all the で entries together.

Otherwise successful day with a doctors and dentists appointment. Had a dodgy looking lesion frozen off, plus flu and typhoid jabs, then I had a crown redone. So my forehead itches, both arms are slightly sore from the jabs, and my tooth hurts!

I read the 15th ep of コナの大冒険. Wow, that chapter was Huge. Came across so many interesting words and phrases. I love the narration, Kona is such a well thought out character, and this chapter was sort of the end of Kona’s regular life and the start of the big adventure.

• もぞもぞ(.) = restless; creeping about
• ぞわり(.) = chillingly; shiveringly. See also ぞわぞわ.
• わだかまりなく = having no ill feeling. From 蟠(わだかま)り / 蟠(わだかま)る.
• 総毛立(そうけだ)つ = to get goosebumps
