Re Zero book club home thread

I see that there is not a lot of fan of Konosuba. I mean it doesn’t have to be Konosuba though that was just a sugestion. But I do get why it can be hard to answer it. I mean I just thought about it but if you guys are okay with going only Re Zero and reading other books on the side(which mean other bookclub or personal ones) it’s good too. I was just thinking that since we are only 8 people reading it and 2 are behind, I didn’t wanted to loss too many people because we are reading 20 volume back to back. :stuck_out_tongue:

So then just wondering:
Do you have the intention of reading all the Re Zero volume with the bookclub?

  • Yes
  • No
  • I plan to read them all but not at the same pace

Right, and I think alternating books can be good indeed.
I just know nothing and thus cannot make any suggestion, though.

To be fair, that was 50% fan rate out of 4 people :stuck_out_tongue: not that bad.

先輩 I was wondering when you vote for I plan to read them but not at the same pace. I guess you meant faster right?

I feel betrayed :sob: Stay with us

Just kidding :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

That is what I mean, sorry :upside_down_face:

I’m still reading the threads and doing the reading aloud if we’ll do that, though (and if I can actually wake up ).

But I chose that option mostly because I have no idea what I’m going to do. I’ll start reading volume 2 either whenever I feel like it or when the club does, and I may or may not read ahead when the time comes.

And here I was hoping we’d be reading the short story collections and Ex volumes too(especially the Ex ones)

But don’t worry, I’ll just read them on my own when we get there if we don’t do them with the club.

Oh, and with the pace this author writes at I’m guessing it’ll be more than 20 volumes by the time we get there

And regarding konosuba I voted for only re:zero because: 1. I’m already reading Konosuba and 2. Some of the kinds of jokes in Konosuba (I like Megumin a lot though)

Because of the second point, and also because Konosuba is way easier than re: zero, maybe it’d make more sense to read one of the other two non re:zero series that were in isekai Quartet if we want variety? (That said, I’d personally prefer sticking to one series to get through it faster, especially since I’m already also reading SAO so I’m already reading something else too)

I’m fine with KonoSuba btw, if my 2 円 count :man_shrugging:

That leaves one series unaccounted for, though? What is it?

Isekai Quartet is a comedy-ish crossover anime between Konosuba, Re:Zero, Overlord, and 幼女戦記, so actually two series that hadn’t been mentioned

(Me mentioning SAO was separate from me mentioning Isekai Quartet)

Ah sorry, I wrongly assumed SAO was in there.

Anyway, okay, what about those other two? I remember seeing Overlord being in votes for Floflo books.

From what I can tell Overlord and Youjo Senki are pretty lengthy. I just looked at the first volume, but the page count for Overlord is listed as 369, and 445 for Youjo Senki for the physical books. I’ve seen the anime for both and loved them so I’d be willing to read them all, but I’m not sure what a book club pace might look like :stuck_out_tongue: TBH Overlord seems not much bigger than Re: Zero, but Youjo Senki is a bit much

Yeah, at the pace we are going, Overlord would be just one extra week. That sounds fine. The question is whether the story is okay or not (I really hate fan service, and not too much gore if possible).

It’s about (just the basic premise, because that’s all I know about it) a guy becoming an evil skeleton overlord in a world similar to a game he used to play, as far as I’m aware, so I’d guess there wouldn’t be too much of the first of those two from that(no idea about the other thing though)

I think I’d personally prefer to read one series at a time though, but I’m also mostly ok with alternating books if people want that… I mostly just want to get far enough in re:zero to read the ex novels because I like the characters they focus on, to be honest, but otherwise I’m fine with alternating them(and as a bonus, if we read other books inbetween we’ll be reading re:zero slower than it’s released, so we’ll be able to keep going for a really long time)

…maybe?

I mean, I intend to continue on with the bookclub for now. I don’t know if the series will continue to hold my interest till the end. :man_shrugging:

(I really like it so far, but a lot can happen in 20 volumes!)

I’d be interested in reading that, I think. Seems interesting judging from the Wiki entry. Though I read some of the Overlord manga and liked it well enough that that’d be nice too.

Don’t know about the amount of fan service and gore, though. :eyes:

If there’s enough interest in alternating for a breather but no particular interest in following another specific series closely, you could also just try on a couple different ones people find interesting enough. Like, ReZero - Konosuba - ReZero - Overlord - ReZero etc.

And then decide if there’s enough interest in a particular series that people want to continue with the story?

But that might get in the way / overlap very easily with what people are reading on their own aready.

幼女戦記 is very interesting, and has nothing of the fan service that plagues most other light novels.

I strongly want to continue reading ReZero with the club, but I just can’t keep up the pace, which is the only reason I voted for ReZero and another book XD

Me too. I already bought them all. (That, and to reach arc 4 or something. I’ve been struggling not to start reading from there)

:eyes:

Hmm. If alternating this with other books in the name of a single club doesn’t work out well, I really feel we should introduce breaks between volumes so that other people could catch up (or for those who want to change the taste a bit by reading other things in between). At least that should work.

How’s this for a coincidence:

I just finished typing the comment above, and few minutes later the calendar reminded me that the 幼女戦記 movie’s blu-ray is slated to release tomorrow. I didn’t even know I added this to my calendar (probably 7 months ago).

This must be the universe telling us something…

I enjoyed the ending to Youjo Senki a lot :man_dancing: (off topic)

By the way, instead of alternating re:zero - other series - re:zero - other series, etc, maybe another option would be to do two volumes of re:zero and one volume of something else? (depending on how much time people need to catch up or want for reading other stuff or something). I especially figured that could make sense if we read something that’s longer than a volume of re:zero. (because it’d be a bit weird to read something else more than re:zero when we started as the re:zero club)

I wondered why there were German subs for a bit, before noticing that they’re actually using German.

Story about a war? Let’s use some German. :man_facepalming:

Very catchy though.

Good point, especially for longer volumes of ‘something else’.

Though alternating what that something else is would also make is so that we’d read more rezero than any one other series.

I’m hopeful I’ll be able to catch up in either the last week (since it’s so short), or the break week I think we’re doing after(?), in which case. :woman_shrugging: I’m fine with whatever majority rules.
