I really liked that book. I prefer that one over the last one. Maybe I prefer action or suspense but I felt that that rythme got faster(even though we are back to square one). We had some nice character develoment for Subaru and Rem. I really liked the part where Subaru was in huge denial of what he was seeing. I wouldn’t have realise it without the book club. I was just wondering why he wasn’t reacting. I never saw that kind of perspective from any other author I read. Rem is such a nice character.

I can’t wait for the next book. Subaru is falling into the dark side. Will Subaru unlock the force lightning? Or will he find what Petelgeuse was talkign about at the end. I wonder what happen to Roswald. I mean for Beatrice she could have been hidden in the library. I don’t see Roswald hidden himself with his OP power. Well he seems OP to me.

I love that you keep updating the number of times but leave the rest the paragraph exactly the same :stuck_out_tongue:
Otherwise, nah, steady as she goes.

No quiz this time?

Otherwise, yes, I really liked the book, for once. Honestly, the last one was a bit of a drag. I’m really glad that we got, finally, to see some 死に戻り. As well as Subaru snapping (both in anger first, and in terror next). Plus some interesting enemies.
Also, I really liked the writing style this time. Was it always that good, or is it just that I’ve been reading so much trash recently (8x DanMachi + 2x乙女ゲームの破滅フラグしかない悪役令嬢に転生してしまった sadly do not know any abbreviation for that title :sob:) that in comparison everything is good? No idea.
Really looking forward to what happens next. (Although I assume that it will be just Subaru pointing Rem in the right direction, and then Rem doing all the heavy lifting).

More like… I’m still hoping that Subaru is 傲慢 and thus would get power from the witch’s 寵愛 (don’t ask me why I’m randomly not translating some words; I do not know). But at the same time, I feel that 死に戻り might just be that, his power. Being able to just keep on trying until you are the one saving the day feels really 傲慢 to me in hindsight. Or maybe I’m completely wrong :woman_shrugging:.

Yeah I questionned myself if I wanted to change that part but since it was still making sense I left it as it was.

Sorry I was out of time. I only thought about it while writing the post. I should found questions while reading it would be more efficient. I just always forget about it.

I found it easier to understand than the last book. I didn’t read DanMachi but is the writing style that bad? I liked the anime even though it’s kinda too much harem oriented for me.

Well, for something that is supposedly professionally written, it is pretty bad, yeah. The author is reusing the same words over and over again, plus has some annoying writing habits. The worst is when someone says something to the main character (let’s say “A”), then the main character has an inner dialog saying that “oh, it seems that A”. And I feel like, well, yeah, I know. I heard (well, read) that as well.
乙女ゲーム[…] is even worse, in the sense that main character is straightforward and pure, and thus says whatever she thinks. That usually goes:
Inner dialog: Hm, I think that A.
Out loud: A!
Inner dialog: Oopsy, I just said A out loud.

AND THEN at the end of the chapter, we always have another take on the same events from the point of view of another character. I really like that in general, since different characters (including the main one) have very different views on what is happening, but that leads to:
Other character’s inner dialog: “Oh god, don’t tell me she is thinking A”
Main character out loud: “A!” (yep, straight up copy/pasted from the previous occurence in the chapter)
Other character’s inner dialog: “aaaand she does think A”.

So you end up with basically the same line SIX (6) FREAKING TIMES. That honestly feels like padding at this point. And that’s fine for a webnovel written for fun and distributed for free (which it used to be), but as a professional work, it leaves much to be desired.

And then, in the same category (and coming from the exact same website), you have Re:Zero’s author begin like

Yeah it does seem annoying. The author wants to be reallllyyyyyy sure you understand the line. The writing style of Re Zero is good. I read another light novel(In english so maybe it was the translator) but the writing style was kinda horrible. The main character had one word he was always using, I never knew when there was a transition between scene and the word choice almost made me think it was written by a child. No wonder Re Zero is popular it’s really good.

This was such a good volume, especially the 2nd half, that’s all.

Yeah last one was a bit too lengthy (what does that mean) up till the last part. The last part was really good though. I felt the writing style changes a bit from time to time, but in general it’s always a nice read for me. But in particular, it gets to another level on the important events (the 2nd half of this volume was extremely good to read even with my foreknowledge).

I feel like that would be a bit too cheap, him getting some power I mean, but it’s true that the future is 前途多難 without any external help so maybe this can’t progress the hard way (this is honestly what I thought at the time. What I know now doesn’t affect my listed opinions here :p)
Sadly this time, even Rem wasn’t enough.

*Shudders*

Also really enjoyed this book, especially the second half. I’m very glad it didn’t go the way the last volume went at all. And wow, haha. It’s amazing to think how bad the writing in those other lns must be. I’m really curious, I don’t think I’ve read any without a bookclub. Haruhi had some problems, but really bad writing was not one of them for me.

Anyway, not the topic here.

Em. Yeah, not much to say. Looking forward to starting the new volume next week. I’m feeling unsure about whether to continue past vol 6, but I think that feeling comes mostly from the drag that was vol 4. If 6 is as good as 5 I can’t imagine wanting to stop. ^^

In that case, I hope you’ll stick around with us to volume 22 :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not even sure I will

Yeah vol 4 was indeed a drag. It’s unfortunate, because the ending part is one of my favorites in anything I’ve read.

Just wanted to add one more thing to this volume. It’s the OST that plays 7 minutes throughout almost all of the last chapter. If you plan on watching the anime one day then maybe avoid listening to it now. If not, or if you’re just curious, I strongly recommend this musical masterpiece:

This volume was pretty good. Like everyone else, I agree especially the 2nd part. We saw Subaru lose his mind, then we encountered the witch cult and Subaru regained his mind, though that came attached with alot of anger. At least he has a purpose now.

I really liked the scenes with the witch cult, they are so mysterious and we only got to learn little bits about them. I am curious as to what sort of things they are planning. The fact they are at the Roswald residence means they are somehow connected.

I was thinking back on those times Subaru died in this volume, and some interesting things came up, that we didn’t really talk about. The first is when he first encountered the massacre at the village and then made his way up to the mansion. He found Roswald’s secret passageway and made his way down, coming across a locked door. Just touching the doorknob severed his limbs. Then he was attacked by “pillars” who were actually frozen humans, who were no longer alive. All to protect the door out of the secret passageway. Roswald is pretty well prepared. I’m guessing they were originally trespassers? Eitherway, Roswald doesn’t seem too hesitant on killing people :stuck_out_tongue:

Then the second time Subaru had died, he made it to the mansion, but alot later, so he got to see more of the aftermath of things. I think it’s safe to assume that the giant animal was Puck, since he said something like “Rest, with my daughter” and the fact everything was covered in ice (his power element). From that one sentence, that must mean that Emilia died. So, in the previous life, when Subaru was in the mansion, Emilia was hiding somewhere and then later was found and killed?

From what @mrahhal is saying, things are going to keep getting better, so I’m looking forward to the next volume. It’ll be interesting to see what Subaru is going to do and what the witch cult is planning. (It’s been so long since I’ve seen the anime so I can’t remember everything )

Actually I believe that Subaru was just frozen like the pillars. The pillar were the shadow that tried to attacked Emilia and were frozen. They did not attacked anyone. The freezing seems more to me a Puck thing either than a Roswald thing.

If we take into consideration that the monster was Puck and that he said that if anything were to happen to Emilia he/she(probably a he because he pretends to be a father to Emilia) could pretty well started to freeze the world because she was killed. So the door that was “protected” as you said was probably because Puck was behind starting to freeze everything.

That what I understood.

Oh yeah, that makes a lot more sense. I don’t know why I didn’t make the connection between the frozen pillars (who were the shadows, and who were actually already dead) and Puck  So, Emilia was already killed then, and Puck was starting to freeze everything. Got it  I promise I’ll be more attentive in the next book :joy:

I mean It could have been Puck. I have no proof of that Because Emilia can also use fire magic so she could have made a kinda barrière to protect herself with the help of Puck. But the second time makes it clear that she is probably dead.

That’s okay I saw the anime so it’s easier for me to draw these conclusions. I will also be counting on you all to help from the futur books

I mean, the first time around he said “you are too late” and the second time around something around the line of “just fall asleep like my daughter” or something (I cannot remember exactly and I put the book into storage already :stuck_out_tongue:) The “daughter thing” plus the fact it’s a (gigantic) cat kinda make it obvious it’s puck.

I forgot about that. Looks like I’m the one who need to read more attentively ha ha

Nope. Let me correct that a bit.

This connects with Subaru’s denial from the massacre in the village. Once he found the secrete passageway, he continued on wondering why the pillars were in such disarray. Only after he was about to die he realized those pillars were actually the witch cultists trying to make there way into the hidden room inside, but they were already frozen to death (so, no shadows). When he touched the door he retracted his hand on reflex from the severe coldness of the knob that they were severed before he noticed. The cold, as we know now, was most likely caused by Puck inside the room. The 2nd time around: “Sleep along with my daughter”, is a reenactment of almost the same thing happening, but a bit more later, when Puck was already getting out of the mansion (I wonder what he was thinking on doing after this).

So, we still know absolutely nothing about Roswaal in all of this.

Isn’t that what I wrote or I have read it wrong?

I’m almost positive that @icefang97 meant the cultists by that, so yes shadows :joy:

Yeah didn’t they were called 影? and did I miss a joke about shadows?
