Hello everyone. Just started chapter 4 (although I do keep going back over previous chapters, especially chapter 3 just to get all the vocab, grammar and particle use correct in my head), and i have come across a few instances where the no particle is being used, for example:
Ginkoo wa toshokan no tonari desu (Sorry don’t have Kana/Kanji characters on my computer yet!)
The bank is next to the library.
Now I know that No is a possessive particle but can also be used for many other things. I’m guessing in this its indicating something kind of similar not possession but proximity?
I’m on chapter 8 now, been on it for about 2 or 3 weeks. It’s pretty straightforward but you’re constantly revising everything you’ve done in previous chapters so there’s a lot to remember. I do about half the exercises I guess.
I don’t have any input regarding Genki, but I thought I would point out that your title means “Everyone is studying Japanese.” If you wanted to better convey “Genki Study Buddies”, perhaps you could go with something like, "Genkiを勉強している皆さん” (Everyone who is studying Genki)
えぇ。。。?
I was trying to use the grammar I’d learned from the lesson just before I posted that… Hmm…
Can you explain why 皆さん would go at the end - and how when my title doesn’t say 日本語 at all you translate it that way? Is it grammar I should’ve come across by now, or some more advanced nuance?
Hello, sorry for being MIA. To be honest I’m an idiot and didn’t know how to use this forum properly and didn’t notice your notification at all.
I’m now on Chapter 6. I hope to finish it by the end of the week but I’ve been busy recently which really sucks!! I’ve got to grips with the grammar, it’s the vocabulary I haven’t been able to find the time to learn properly. I used to be able to do Japanese at work which was great, but it’s been a lot busier recently
So now I’m trying to do more renshuu to get to grips with the vocab in Genki ALONGSIDE Wanikani. I want to do a chapter a week but I’m putting advancing on hold until I’m good with the vocab.
I’m on chapter 5 currently, and maybe it’s just because I’m tired today but it’s really feeling like every chapter adds a layer on top of all the previous chapters, PLUS introduces some new element you know is going to be added to later. Do things keep piling on exponentially? Is there a breakthrough point? (this is also my biggest unease about WaniKani, based on all the posts I’m reading about reviews piling up…)
Well, due to having really messed up internet due to my move, I haven’t gotten a chance to do any of my reviews lately, and because I don’t know which box I put my genki books in, I haven’t been able to do that.
Well, I did mean “Everyone is studying Genki”… So good to know that my intention was correct. (Even though some people use Tae Kim, Minna no Nihongo, and other resources.) Everyone in this thread is studying with Genki after all!
Thank you for the clarification and explanation, though.
EDIT: It might’ve been chapter 9, actually… The more I think about it the more familiar it seems. Probably one of the things I complained didn’t have enough examples!
I’m 4 lessons ahead of you and I think that is pretty much the norm…
So prepare for it to continue that way. Maybe not exponentially, exactly (not quite that difficult, in my opinion), but all that adding and such as you described definitely continues…
頑張って!
@alexbeldan I’m having a really down day and picked up a shift at work last minute, so no Lesson 10 yet… It’s starting to feel like I might be putting it off another week.
