I would love if there was an undo button in reviews, like Bunpro has. It really guilts you about doing it, and I agree with the guilt as you don’t want to mess up the repetition algorithm, but there are times on WaniKani I genuinely have typoed and wished I could get that one back. When I get into a rhythm with reviews I can sometimes have already hit enter by the time my brain realizes my finger slipped.
Not a huge thing, but I think it could be helpful. It is always a bummer to see something I made a typo on pop up in my reviews for days afterwards.
A very common request, and one that is sure to be ignored. If you’re not already familiar, I would recommend checking out the various userscripts in these forums, there are many options to “patch” undo into the website.
There’s a reason why undo isn’t a feature, it would be too easy for someone to abuse and ruin the entire SRS pacing. I can tell you, I did this to myself. I used a plugin and went max speed through mid 20’s and I totally screwed myself. Ended up having to reset all of the way back and take it easy. Now if I get something wrong, I just shrug. I’ll get to 60 eventually.
I do not think that is a fair assessment, as they have responded quite a few times explicitly stating that this functionality is not part of the product by design intent, along with their reasoning. Whether one agrees or disagrees with that design decision and/or the reasoning behind it is another matter, but it is not the same thing as a request being ignored.
There was a discussion of turning to Wrong as well (as also with typo detection not always as intended), and they replied that turning to Right could be considered in the same feature. Nonetheless, they aren’t the fastest to implement a requested feature.
You can see total installs for scripts if you check the page.
For WK double check it’s 35.690
There’s also a stats page. Apparently there are roughly 3000 daily update checks, that would
suggest about 3000 unique users
Could be more if WK users don’t check in daily
Could be less if people keep the script installed while no longer doing WK daily
IMO, it seems like a convenient way to avoid having to updating the site. Not to mention, if users make typos, it keeps them on the same level longer. Given the majority of users pay a monthly subscription, this is in their benefit too. An undo button is not an experimental idea or something most people abuse, like OP said Bunpro has an undo feature. I don’t think most users abuse the undo mod, most people just use it to fix typos and have the discipline to not cheat with it. It’s up to the individual to how they want to use it, but WK doesn’t even offer an undo button as something a feature you could turn on or off, it just doesn’t exist. In my opinion, an undo button is an essential feature in any language learning program. Saying that it’s an intentional decision just seems like a convenient way to not have to update the site.
But you learned your lesson and were only cheating yourself. It’s not really fair to punish people in order to try to stop some from messing up. The fact that it didn’t stop you just goes to show that it’s an annoying folly atop the hill they’re dying on, level buddy.
