I think I’m stupid… now it makes sense ![]()
I actually didn’t realize that Eren was crying, now everything makes sense!
This also sounds like she’s telling him to do something, don’t know if getting a medical examination is something he should do or should have done, but then it would basically be Mikasa scolding him. He got angry (and cried?) Because she was scolding him.
Not sure this is exactly the context, but probably Hannes did think Eren was crying because Mikasa had scolded him… actually he’s been crying literally for no reason since the beginning of the chapter and now I don’t remember the anime but there was some deeper reason that gets figured out around season 3-4
could be wrong tho, the beginning if this manga is quite intricated
Oh, it’s actually in the page you posted.
“But, to cry for no reason… What if you got checked by uncle?”
“Don’t be absurd! Like I can tell my dad this kind of stuff.”
臭い
So, no. She wasn’t scolding him. And he’s not really angry.
That part indeed was clear (linking to the beginning if the chapter tho)
And yes, there’s a reason for a lot of seemingly meaningless and random stuff in AoT.
Glad your doubts were cleared. ![]()
Also, Hannes asks him why he’s crying as well, which links to the next question, and Eren’s reply.
I think I got it
Summary
in the beginning of the chapter he wakes up crying, and neither him nor Mikasa know why. On their way back home she asks what you translated in your last answer. Maybe Hannes being drunk hears it and simply thinks that he’s crying for some reason so he asks if Mikasa scolded him.
Yet I have a doubt on his next line, what does Eren means with his next line? (Previous to 酒くさ!)
He’s wondering why he’s crying? You mean the shouting bubble?
Exactly that one
You can figure that one out. ![]()
Wait, is him still crying? Why does he say that screaming? I thought that Hannes with his previous speech bubble was simply asking in a general way why did he cry at some point
Also is it normal for the verb to be 泣く and not 泣いている?
It is, because he’s not asking that. ![]()
Like ‘why do I cry’ in a rhetoric question?
So 酒くさ was his justification? Like - I’m crying because of the Sake smell
No, that’s a separate thing I feel. He’s just exclaiming that the dude reeks of alcohol.
Ok, this is clear now, yet I don’t see why he’s shouting that he’s crying after wanting to hide that
Also thanks for your help😁
Nope, haha.
“Were you scolded by Mikasa?”
は!? なんでオレが泣くんだよ!…
って
He knows he’s crying, so he’s not asking why he’s crying, again.
“Huh? Why would I cry (for getting scolded by Mikasa)?”
Even though I can’t find it, I think って here is some sort of っていうか, either abbreviated, or like an interjection. Basically, shifting importance to another topic, in this case…
酒くさ(い)!!
“You/it stink(s) of alcohol!!”
Either that with って, or Eren is quoting either Hannes or himself. Asking why he would say that, or saying he’s saying he wouldn’t cry for that. I’d still go with my hunch of the first one.
Unless you translated it as なんでオレが泣くんだよって “why are you saying I would cry?”
Took me too long…
Let me just find the damn translation.
Fuck.
I didn’t see it ![]()
Everything makes sense now
Where did you find the english version? It would be helpful being able to check it also considering that my doubts are more often on logic of the narration rather than grammar ![]()
