I also agree that 出していれば = ている form of 出す + ば conditional to get the pattern: verb + ばよかった (like in: 知っていればよかったのに).
I always have trouble with the present progressive in Japanese (confusing tense and aspect). I think it’s just used here because of the 初めから (はじめに ------> 今), instead of something like: 初めにフリーレン様の名前を出せばよかったんじゃないですか。 Please correct me anyone if I’m mistaken – I’m still learning.

I think your translation works. Or maybe “You’re behind this?”.
Apparently the “instigation”; “manipulation” meaning of 差し金 (or 差金) comes from another meaning of 差し金: the rod used to control the arm of a puppet in 文楽 (traditional Japanese puppet theater).

That chapter was so good! We always knew Frieren was a badass but easy to forget as she looks so sweet and fragile. I feel like that’s the first time we’ve really seen her in full swing!

I had that same question about ドラート’s speech to フリーレン when I was reading it too! The clause「断頭台のアウラが配下首切り役人の一人」is just a noun phrase, it seems like it should just be 「断頭台のアウラの配下…」
It was bothering me a bit, so I tried looking a little more. I think the が may be used here in the archaic sense, acting just like の. Kind of like in the expressions that are still around today like 我が国 (Our Country) that we learn in WaniKani – or even in the national anthem of Japan: 君が 代. I think 断頭台のアウラが配下 is pretty much that same as 断頭台のアウラの配下.
Maybe it’s a question that the grammar experts here in the forums could answer though.

”in ancient Japanese, it was used as a possessive particle between two nouns, a usage still seen in some limited phrases, particularly in place names…Carries old-fashioned connotations, and suggests a favorable view of the following noun. I’m trapped in an airport waiting for a late flight. Perfect time to catch up!
Ch 14 impressions
I didn’t think it was obvious at all that Frieren tried attacking Lügner right at the beginning so it took me a while to figure out why she was arrested. In general I found it difficult to tell who was speaking!
And I’m still getting used to how apathetic she seems. So in the flashback when Himmel doesn’t kill the demon child, I couldn’t take her warning seriously because I would have thought then she would just finish her off, but it seems she’s ok to let other people make their own mistakes and experience.
Edit: and done, read through to the end. I’ll be interested in reading everyone’s impressions!

Yes I liked that chapter too. My impressions changed dramatically between seeing the spoiler of her hanging when I had to jump ahead to post the threads, and then when I actually read what was happening.
Ch 17 thoughts
Interesting turns there at the end. A lot darker than volume 1. And my comment from Ch 14 about her letting other people do their own thing stands here, too, but at least since I’d thought about that in Ch 14 I wasn’t as surprised here when she saw Fern and Stark and was like “I’m out of here see you!”
One thing that felt out of character at the end is that Fern doesn’t finish off the demons.
I get that Fern and Stark want to help the count, but her cool zoltrack move doesn’t take that long right? Well I guess it keeps an active adversary for volume 3

I agree, it definitely seems way darker, but I’m pretty into it. Knowing nothing of the series outside of this bookclub, I, for a while, had the “where is this story going” thought, but I’m hooked now. I thought the title drop at the end was also really satisfying. Thanks for hosting this book club. This has been one of my favorites!

ending and title
I meant to respond to this, too. In the whole first volume and until almost the end of volume 2, I thought the title was referring to Frieren going to funerals eg as a reference to her living so much longer than everyone else. I hadn’t even considered a double meaning until I saw it dropped at the end here where I was like, oooh, “seeing off” the undead, ie, killing them.

I had a similar reaction when I watched the anime. The subtitles called her “Frieren the Slayer”, but I could hear the actual pronounciation, so my brain parsed the pun with a moment’s delay and then I went mwhahaha 
.

Title
As does the Viz manga, but without the advantage of being able to tell what the characters actually say. Though it’s kinda academic conisdering the name they used for the series is different anyway.
