Just out of curiosity, which manga is that from?
It’s Aria. You should challenge yourself and read it.
Good idea, but I reckon Yotsuba is enough challenge to be getting on with for a while thanks!
It’s here at last! The last chapter of volume 7.
It has been a great volume, and we finally get to see the promised 牧場.
Discussion of Chapter 48 starts here.
Remember you can always ask questions about previous chapters.
Let’s see how the week goes, and what we plan to do next.
I’ve been really busy lately, but this club always helps me relax.
It’s pretty cozy here compared to the other book club threads, I get overwhelmed by the amount of people, and can’t usually keep up.
We’ve finally reached the promised land!
The cow-milking woman kinda reminds me of Fuuka…
Unlike previous chapters, I can’t for the life of me work out what Yotsuba’s singing on page 205.
(Weird side note: on page 172, Koiwai said he finds sheep cute, but for some reason, Yen Press has translated it as “cows”…)
I noticed that too…
Guess they just assumed he agreed with Yotsuba and didn’t pay enough attention to notice
I noticed at the end of the English manga there was a big photo of a cow! So i tried to see if there was anything on the Japanese version of same kind…
Well, not sure if it has been mentioned before or not, but, undress your manga
Wow! Nice one! If you hadn’t posted that, I’d have never noticed! Come tomorrow, I won’t be able to resist going to the rest of the Yotsuba books to see what other hidden cover images I might have missed!
Yeah, I was thinking the same!
I think I looked at the first and it was just a uncolored version of the dust cover, so never checked the others.
But I’ve learned through the Aria group that it can be quite interesting! (there is a four panel comic strip under the dust cover! )
Bah, I thought you meant the Masterpiece version. Masterpiece just has artistic pictures of birds and clouds.
Masterpiece wants those nice omake yonkoma back, precious…
Hehe, yeah, it’s on the old ones. We have shared some, but if we forgot to share some of the older ones, let me know and I’ll put them up for you =)
Think I’ve generally got them in my English copies. Though, I guess, if one were missing, I’d never know.
I can’t believe this volume is over already :o Seems like it went fast.
And I just realized: this means we’re halfway through the series!
I love this chapter xD So classic. Great way to end the volume.
I agree with Yotsuba - cows are 100% かわいい! Yanda doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
I love how Yanda gets distracted by the dog on pg 186 xD
pg 191 is so cute She’s making friends with the cow ;_; The whole cow milking scene is priceless, but my favorite is pg 197 when they’re all clapping for the cow, and the cow’s just looking at them like…what is this xD
Halfway through the series as it currently stands. It’s still being written, you know.
It’s in a monthly magazine, though, and I’m not sure there’s even a chapter printed every issue, so it takes a while for new volumes to be released.
The real question is, will another volume be released before the club finishes volume 14? xD According to Wikipedia, it’s been over two years between releases for the most recent volumes. I hope the club finishes volume 14 before 2 years pass xD
Great! The final chapter of the book, we are flying through this!
Janbo: 牧場もうすぐ 着くぞー
We’ll soon arrive at the farm yeah!
Yanda: よつばは何しに 牧場行くんだ?
よつばは - Yotsuba + topic marker
何 - what
し - ?
に - particle
牧場 - dairy farm
行く - go
ん - explanation particle
だ? - copula
This looks like it ought to be a simple sentence, he’s obviously asking Yotsuba why she wants to go to a farm, but I can’t figure out the grammar. Perhaps that し holds the key. Can anyone tell me what it is?
Yotsuba: やんだは バカだな
Yanda’s an idiot
なんだ - what
その - that
見下した - past tense of 見下す, to despise; to look down on
目 - eyes, look,
は - topic marker?
Yotsuba has called Yanda stupid and he’s obviously asking why (what + that + looked down on + eyes) but again, how does all this fit together?
Okay? I’ll tell you.
Yotsuba: ぼくじょうには うしがいる
At the farm there are cows
Yanda: え!? おしまい!?
Eh?! That’s it?!
Yotsuba: いちからか? いちから せつめいしないとだめか?
From scratch? Is it no good without an explanation from scratch?
Pretty sure it’s する + に (of intent) + 行く = going to (the ranch) to do.
The main clause has been omitted here. Reckon it’s basically just “who do you think you are looking down on me like that?”
Thank you so much @Belthazar! And thank you for all your amazing work in the なぜ？どして？bookclub too! I can hardly believe it’s finished now!
