It seems like the first two volumes are free on amazon kindle!
Also free on Bookwalker currently
Wow, the timing for this book club really worked out when it comes to getting free stuff, eh?
Thanks for letting us know!
The second week thread is up now!
The third week thread is up now!
Want to test your reading speed? Check out this series of videos:
It plays through the panels of the comic at a speed that I imagine is a native Japanese would be able to comfortably read through. (Although sometimes I think there’s a panel with a lot of text that goes away a bit too fast. So maybe there’s not as much consideration for that?)
I’ve been reading lots of manga for a couple of years now, and I’m not quite able to keep up. But I’m getting there! (Sub-vocalizing is my life-long enemy. Maybe if I play the videos at a reduced speed…)
The first 14 chapters are available.
Yeah this is way beyond me haha - I get like halfway through and can’t keep up
I guess the solution is just to read and read a lot - that’s pretty much how I increase my reading speed in English at least
The fourth week thread is up now and we’re halfway this book club!
Today, while slacking off on Japanese learning, I put together some CSS to replace the lesson and review images on the WaniKani homepage. It’s nothing fancy, but I figured I’d share here in case anyone else would be interested in changing things up a little on their dashboard.
Install a browser extension such as User CSS that lets you add your own custom styles to any web site, then visit WaniKani’s dashboard and put the following into the extension:
.lessons-and-reviews__lessons-button{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/ayumu_lessons-0.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__lessons-button--1{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/ayumu_lessons-1.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__lessons-button--25{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/ayumu_lessons-25.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__lessons-button--50{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/ayumu_lessons-50.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__lessons-button--100{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/ayumu_lessons-100.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__lessons-button--250{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/ayumu_lessons-250.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__lessons-button--500{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/ayumu_lessons-500.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__reviews-button{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/urushi_reviews-0.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__reviews-button--1{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/urushi_reviews-1.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__reviews-button--50{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/urushi_reviews-50.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__reviews-button--100{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/urushi_reviews-100.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__reviews-button--250{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/urushi_reviews-250.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__reviews-button--500{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/urushi_reviews-500.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews__reviews-button--1000{background-image:url(http://kurifuri.com/files/wanikani/css/urushi_reviews-1000.png)}
.lessons-and-reviews>ul>li>a {height: 30px; background-position: bottom;}
This replaces the lesson and review images with Ayumu and Urushi:
(Unrelated: @anon45600167, looks like this thread’s title can be updated to reflect that we’re currently reading.)
Done @ChristopherFritz!
Also may I thank you for all the effort you’re putting in every single post? I do appreciate them and enjoy reading each one of them!
Plus this CCS is really nice, I’ll give it a try later!!!
Hey! Is it too late to join this book club? It would be my first, and I thought maybe I should wait for the next one, but the next one doesn’t look too interesting to me and this one looks really cute, so…
Always prioritize that which you believe will be interesting for you.
If you’d like to join in, I recommend reading chapter one (and its discussion thread if necessary, plus ask any questions you have) so you get to know the premise and characters.
After that, the chapters are fairly standalone. You can decide to jump to the current chapter(s) we’re reading, and read/follow along in real time (getting to the skipped chapters later). Or you can decide to go through the chapters in order, following behind the club.
If there’s enough interest, someone will run an offshoot book club to continue with the next volume after this one is finished.
Ooooh, that’s nice! I’ll definitely give this a try as my first manga then!
Especially since I miiiiight have already bought it…
皆さん、よろしくおねがいします!
Welcome!
Welcome and you can start whenever you want! Also, each chapter is a stand-alone one, so you don’t have to read all the previous ones to be able to understand the storyline!
The fifth week thread is up now!
The sixth week thread is up now!
The seventh week thread is up now! And we have almost finished this bookclub!!
The final week is here! (≧ω≦)
First things first, a huge thank to all of you who took part in this bookclub! It has been a pleasure to read your questions and answer, and seeing everyone giving its own contribution! o(≧▽≦)o
Now, since some of you have already shown interest (and I myself have already bought volume 2), here I want to leave a small poll to see if anyone wants to keep going with an offshoot club for our Ayumu-kun and Urushi-chan.
Would you like to keep going with それでも歩は寄せてくる in an offshoot club?
- Yep!
- Naah…
