That doesn’t even look like Kanji!
I know!!
Starting to get real fed up with 興. Its so damn close to being symmetrical, but it just has that one stroke in the top left thats a little curved.
As a beginner - this. And kanji for “Big”, also seems to be extremely tricky for me, even more than gifuring out when to use jin, nin or hito or ri.
Uh, what’s up with the mnemonic for 打 Suppose I’m thankful that WK waited until level 4 to introduce body horror…
Oh, just you wait. Koichi has no chill lmao.
I agree. Kanji that appear to be the same with just a stroke difference are very frustrating.
人
月
日
because
jin/nin
getsu/gatsu
nichi/jitsu
I think it’s exactly what hell looks like
There’s a rule for 月, though. It’s only gatsu when referring to a specific month (ichigatsu, nigatsu, etc.) and nangatsu (that is, asking about a specific month). Otherwise it’s getsu. Unless it’s tsuki.
Thanks for the tip
Almost always the last one practiced. I began with RTK 40 years ago so there is always an aesthetic judgment when I “write the little pictures.” I had a Japanese tutor who would, on occasion, say “that character’s good,” but not terribly often. The picture for the mind is that of the writers, particularly those working with the dismaying demands of large brushes or mops, sitting still in front of the scroll until they have the character in their bones. Then they move forward, and commit themselves, and the characters come in their black details and mastery. Some time ago I had a master execute a scroll of seishinnoshodou, the spirit of calligraphy. I look at it. Fat lot of good, so far.
Oh, just you wait. Koichi has no chill lmao.
I already agreed with this to start with, but today I just learned the kanji for Tea… Dear God I’m more horrified with each day. xD
Someone clearly doesn’t know 前凸後翹
I do not, and a jisho search doens’t help, and a google image search brings up more questions than answers. Lots of scantily clad women.
Its chinese lol
After I FINALLY learned to tell the difference between 識 (しき) and 職 (しょく)… I just got to 織 (しき, しょく). Great.
It is only Chinese but I cheated. It’s literally 前凸 <-Protruding front 後翹<-Outstanding rear
y- you have an outstanding rear
It actually seems to mean both “Outstanding” or also “sticking out”. I’m not sure if the double meaning is intentional.
Anyway, I do have a nice butt, years of ballet
I hate 用 to no end. Every word it compounds is an absolute pain in the butt. There are many and I can never guess the meaning by just putting the kanji together.
I understand 用 in a word as an indicator that it’s about “something that needs to be done” or a “use” (whereas I see no connection at all between those two meanings), but, because it’s always combined with other kanji of such generic meanings, like “idea”, or “make” or “thing”, even that doesn’t help.
And though I know the meanings of the vocab 用, not all of them apply to the kanji and I hate that. I hate the stupid elephant so much I want to cry.
