What is your favorite/buddy kanji?

Bottom text. You know, that one kanji that you love, maybe even knew before Wanikani. Every time you see it in a vocab word, you feel a lil’ better about life. Something about that one kanji just butters your biscuits. You could even say it’s your best friend. As a super low-level person, I’m curious what kind of kanji you all like, especially those who’ve learned way more.

I’ll start! Mine is 中. I memorized the readings instantly because both are in the name of my favorite character, 中原中也 (Nakahara Chuuya). Not only that, but every vocab word since has made perfect sense (Ex: 中止, 水中.) If I had to pick a kanji to be my best friend, it would be that one.

Not a modern kanji but I love 龜 (turtle). It’s almost photorealistic.

I like 薔薇 because I can impress all the Japanese ladies by writing it.

春 was one of the first I was able to write long before WK because of 春野サクラ :relieved:

Also 雨 because it was on Sesame Street iirc. I painted that one over and over again.

燕 but unfortunately it’s pretty rare.

I was majoring in linguistics at uni when I started taking Japanese and was quickly expected to learn how to say it in Japanese for conversation class - 「専攻は言語学です。」. Since then I’ve had an affection for 語, but particularly for the 言 radical wherever it appears.

Mine is the kanji “buddy” (君).

I actually like 義 (and similar, such as 議) because it’s so satisfying to write (well, mostly the 我 part, but somehow 我 is not doing it for me).

I also really like rare ones like 胤 or 裔 or 祷 (in before “those are not rare, I see them five bazillion times a day”)

My buddy must be 神(onyomi: しん / kunyomi: かみ)。

Kami, what makes us all and this world. The Kanji is found in the darkest words such as 精神病(せいしんびょう = mental illness)to pure words as 女神(めがみ = Goddess)。From the tangible city of 神戸(こうべ = Kobe)to mystery beyond this world 神秘的(しんぴてき = mysterious)。

When you see it, an interesting word surely awaits. 神 is never tedious, but always full of life. I love this Kanji and everything it stands for!:jp:

風 and 強 are real fun too. I can’t wait to see what other kanji have my cool big friend in them.

I’m a fan of the absolutely preposterous 𪚥.

Go ahead and increase the font size of the page so that stops looking like a scribbly black box.

Confession: I didn’t even learn it because I dropped my sub without doing the level 60 lessons.

Like @Uchihaha I dig 雨. It’s simple, kinda pretty, has an easily recognizable meaning. And I like the sound of the word. あめ. It’s nice! Also I like the rain.

Also a fan of 秋 for similar reasons.

I’m glad I saw this post on my computer first because my phone doesn’t even want to acknowledge such an abomination exists.
