Bottom text. You know, that one kanji that you love, maybe even knew before Wanikani. Every time you see it in a vocab word, you feel a lil’ better about life. Something about that one kanji just butters your biscuits. You could even say it’s your best friend. As a super low-level person, I’m curious what kind of kanji you all like, especially those who’ve learned way more.
I’ll start! Mine is 中. I memorized the readings instantly because both are in the name of my favorite character, 中原中也 (Nakahara Chuuya). Not only that, but every vocab word since has made perfect sense (Ex: 中止, 水中.) If I had to pick a kanji to be my best friend, it would be that one.
I was majoring in linguistics at uni when I started taking Japanese and was quickly expected to learn how to say it in Japanese for conversation class - 「専攻は言語学です。」. Since then I’ve had an affection for 語, but particularly for the 言 radical wherever it appears.
Kami, what makes us all and this world. The Kanji is found in the darkest words such as 精神病(せいしんびょう = mental illness)to pure words as 女神(めがみ = Goddess)。From the tangible city of 神戸(こうべ = Kobe)to mystery beyond this world 神秘的(しんぴてき = mysterious)。
When you see it, an interesting word surely awaits. 神 is never tedious, but always full of life. I love this Kanji and everything it stands for!
Like @Uchihaha I dig 雨. It’s simple, kinda pretty, has an easily recognizable meaning. And I like the sound of the word. あめ. It’s nice! Also I like the rain.
