Find a mnemonic for it! For every reading that needs an extra う, include a detail that will help you recall it.

Any example is welcome, because I tend to have these wrong often too.

For obvious, dumb, you weren’t even looking I use the override script. You have to be strict with yourself and only use it when it is truly a mistake because abuse can affect your learning… but in this situation it’s a lifesaver… like when I got ICHI - ONE wrong! HOW?!

I hate losing the “nin or jin?” game. And I then get annoyed at the “you’ll know how to read this”. Not when there’s two possibilities!

にん is for occupation, じん is for personality.

It gets kinda fuzzy for some words (lookin at you 病人 and 老人) but I find it’s an easy mnemonic to make up stories for.

In that case, would it be accurate to say that にん is for something that’s subject to change, and じん is for something that’s intrinsic to the person (a 病人 can get better, but you can’t stop being a 老人)?
