It is slightly slower, but higher quality (louder and crisper, in a good way)
I like the new ones here. Not checked the others yet.
すごい! I was wondering why we only learned part of some transitive pairs! Great to see these are starting to get pumped back in! ![]()
31 verbs. 4 non verbs. Hmmmm.
New one is slower, noticably so. Sounds a bit different but that could be anything from the microphone used, the audio recording settings, the room in which the recording was done, how the speaker was feelling that day, etc…
Slower is easier to understand and follow, but sounds much less natural. Sounds like my co-workers speaking to me when they get to the 3rd or 4th time repeating something I am not getting.
Heh. My plan is to get all burned then go over the list and revive anything I don’t remember instantly.
I’m grateful for the new vocab. Kun’yomi readings are, next to really abstract vocab and weird exceptions, the only thing I sometimes have trouble remembering.

Late to the party, but THANK YOU!!

No, that’s correct after a name ending with a ‘s’ sound. Although most people would still pronounce it “Lewis’s”, it should be written without the extra ‘s’.
Hello WaniKani team.
I’m curious, as I was practicing my japanese, I used the word やまびこ and the japanese native had a good chuckle.
When I asked why the word made her laugh, she mentionned that the word is not used anymore, they prefer using エコーinstead.
What are your thoughts, are we seeing another original japanese word being pushed aside by another loan word?
Thanks for the new content additions, glad to see yall still improving the site!
From what I understand, 山びこ is strongly associated to the echo happening when yelling in a mountain, and the mountain “answer”, so it may be unnatural in other context.
This is 山びこ:
Btw I complained a little in this thread earlier, when the vocab was added, because やまびこ is marked “rare” on jisho, but because of the karmic law of the universe I actually saw it twice in native content the next week after! One time because やまびこ is the name of one of the shinkansen. And another time when watching the anime Odd taxi, やまびこ is the name of the local bar where many of the characters meet. Mea culpa Wanikani. ![]()
Was just gonna suggest “to renew”, but then I clicked the link and read the description. Might still be helpful to remember it as “to make (a)new”.
I’m thinking of them more like “~ing” or “~ed”, then ~まる as “to be(come) ~”, and ~める is “to make ~” or “cause to be(come) ~” - it’s a bit of a mouthful in English, but that’s English for you ![]()
They’re more, er, three-dimensional, I’d say - they sound like maybe a better quality microphone, or slightly less compressed. Different, not necessarily better or worse, on the whole. I’m listening with headphones on, so the “bigger sound stage” is noticeable.
That might be the difference for me. I only listen on my phone and I don’t think the new audio comes across as well on my speakers.
The more the merrier! MORE MORE MORE!
When was the last time new Kanji were added?
I’d love to see levels 61-80 included to cover N1, most frequently used 2500 kanji and the Joyo kanji set!
I hope they can be created before I clear 60 ![]()
