the biggest point against, from my perspective (that is, having moderated and/or admin’d a variety of forums and similar over the last 20 years), is that too many subforums is bad. if a subforum only gets a new topic every other day or so (i.e. level 60 posts) it probably shouldn’t have it’s own subforum. subforums which don’t get enough activity wither away.
though the WK forum has the huge advantage of being able to view the subcategories as part of the main categories. i only have the view WaniKani, not switch between the 6 subcategories. that mitigates the problem of having too many subforums/channels/categories…
If a subforum only gets a new topic every other day, that doesn’t mean that subforum gets replies every other day. Every thread that gets started will get many replies. That’s not anybody’s definition of “withering away”.
Currently those level 60 celebration threads are spread out everywhere. Some are in Wanikani, some in Campfire, some are even in Tips & Tricks. This will make threads more organised.
We’re waiting to make the decision with our new team members. Don’t worry though, we haven’t forgotten about this. We’ll let you know when we’ve made a decision.
Has there ever been an update on this? I stumbled in here while expanding the list in the thread linked below but a subcategory would be sooo much smarter and easier to manage. Outroductions?
@plantron Okay, I’m back. Long story short, this is on our timeline for discussion. Right now we’re also navigating some other things we have lined up. It might be a few weeks until we revisit this, but we will get to it!
They polled it and the amount of people who want this is 10x greater than the amount of people who don’t. Just make it already, please. Its been almost a year since this thread was made for something that takes 10 seconds to implement.
