I feel like the best Natively can do is give you a ballpark figure for how things are viewed, difficultywise at least, by a community - like, to me things have a ‘float’ of about 3-5 levels. Eg it’s useful for me to know if I’m looking at a lvl 18, 25 or 40 book, but not really so much for looking at the difference between a lvl 23 or a lvl 25 book.
But it’s great for that and for finding recs and for reviews that focus on difficulty of reading, so it’s still really useful.
Well, I may not have posted yesterday, but I did do a lot of reading the last two days! 2 chapters of Major V6 and 1 of 名探偵コナン V19 yesterday, and 2 chapters of コナン today. I’m more than halfway done with both volumes!
I also read a few pages of my Spanish short stories book, as well as 2/3 of a book in English. My eyes are a bit tired now, but it’s been fun!
Love reading like 10 things simultaneously and then starting another one on top of that lmao.
The plan for this challenge was to read more novels, since to this day I have only finished コンビニ人間, and that was almost a year ago! But since they take a long time to read, I find that I lose interest half-way through most of them .
Cautiously hopeful about being able to breeze through 恋せぬふたり though, it was very easy to read yesterday!
Yes, I’ve been powering through this LN and starting to lose interest at about the 75% mark, which is about right for letting me allow myself to ‘force’ myself to finish. To be fair, it is the longest book I’ve read so far though.
The kids books might be easier but being able to finish them like popcorn is probably better for me ego
Again not so much done today. Partly because of JLPT results related stress, partly because of being busy at work, and partly because I forgot quite how dense ノルウェイの森 is.
Thoughts on ノルウェイの森:
The language used really isn’t that hard compared to other books I’ve read.
But it’s so dense. There’s hardly any line breaks for dialogue even. This is going to take a while.
村上’s prose is really lovely, and reading the original version is also making me appreciate how good the English translation is.
Speaking of translations, my headcannon was that stormtrooper as a character name in the English version was a star-wars reference. I don’t know if I’m disappointed or intrigued that it actually comes from 突撃隊 - as in (from what I can gather) the German stormtroopers. Need to do more research on this.
The other Easter egg I already knew previously is that Norwegian wood (as in the song) is referring to a type of wood, as in the material, while of course ノルウェイの森 translates as “forest”, which is a carryover from the Japanese translation of the Beatles song being “incorrect”.

Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel 2
We took revenge for Celdric and captured Justis’ father who was responsible for it. Time for a stop in Barehardt and more bonding events. But I only had time to watch the one with the princess. She is such a nice person.
just one chapter of 3月のライオン and then spent ages trying to find the heart of darkness quote in the front of the next psycho-pass. the translation is so different. english book is girl, woman, other by bernadine evaristo which won the 2019 booker.
Sure enough, I reached and made the other choice and there were more frequent lookups again. I’m also rather tired and lost a bit of my focus towards the end. I might have to take a look at the last few paragraphs tomorrow again to make sure I got the gist of things.
Another day another chapter!
This is so cute, I can’t fathom how I waited so long to read further. There are a lot of cute Panels again and their relationship keeps growing. I like how it develops so subtle, yet suddenly so much has happend at the same time.
I started a new manga today - 焼いてるふたり. It’s a little harder than what I have read lately, with no furigana, but the characters are great and I enjoy reading about adults for a change, rather than high school kids!
Progress on Elf-san, finished the chapter. Back to fantasy fighting so progress will probably slow again.
Finished Bisque Doll 5. Really happy despite Marin’s copious use of slang this series is feeling easier and easier. I think I’ve finally outpaced the anime, so should be interesting from here.
Started a new manga 僕の奥さんはちょっと怖い 1. Quality is noticeably lower than other stuff I’ve read recently, (it’s mostly a similar kind of joke played out over and over again) but chapters are short, it’s cute and fluffy and I know most of the words, so it’s quite a relaxed read. (I did get tripped up by a chapter that was about a work conference regarding photomodelling that needed me to look up a lot of new terms)
