macalys Home Post and Thread
The last challenge was my first and it was a blast ! Reading on a regular basis on all sorts of material learned me a lot. I could feel my progress day after day, and at the end of march, without thinking it, I had read my first 3 mangas, my first 2 entire Satori Reader stories and my first short novel 
Now signing in again with, among other material, a light novel and a more challenging manga (which I’ve been struggling with since december 
)
Sometimes, at the end of the day, a reading session is too much for my exhausted brain. I don’t want to blame myself for it and I don’t mind if my count of pages is sometimes zero for the day. Reading must stay a pleasure and not become a chore for me. Otherwise, knowing myself, it will be burnout.
So “step by step and always with desire” stays the motto here

This is my first reading challenge. I saw the last thread at the end of February and figured it was too late to consider joining, but I want to build habits and make exposing myself to grammar easier.
I’m reading 原罪物語 -罪- which is not listed on Natively but is similar to these other books listed as Level 30?? (which is definitely above my paygrade, but I’m okay with that!). I’m not sure if I could reasonably finish it in 3 months at the pace I’m going, but I will at least definitely make progress!
I’m also playing Little Witch in the Woods on Steam, which is a lot easier, and a much more manageable goal to finish.
Also in the vein of “easier” I’m going to be playing Stardew Valley.
I’m also scouting for manga to read. We’ll see how well that goes.

I did make some challenge goals, but I like to follow my reading whims so some things were less of a focus than I thought they would be. By far my most prose reading came from Japanese HP, which has been so so good for my reading speed and comprehension. I’m not exactly breezing through it, but it gets easier with every reading session and I’ve actually learned quite a few kanji from it as well since it has partial furigana. According to the kindle page count, the amount I read is somewhere around 120 pages!! Woah! So that plus Fushigi puts my prose page count in the 150 range for this challenge. Nice!
I’m still finding Fushigi Sweet Shop enjoyable, have been playing around with different reading methods. Lower lookup methods seem to work well for this pick since the stories follow predictable formats. It’s also a paper read so the barrier to lookups is higher.
I thought I’d read one story a day and finish the folktales reader in less than a month, but obviously I didn’t! Haha, oops. I’ll get there eventually.
I finished 4 manga volumes this challenge, which is the same number as last challenge. However, with the exception of ookami-chan, the manga I read this challenge was more difficult!

I’ll be joining again this quarter. I think my participation in the Winter challenge is a good contender for the most impactful thing to my Japanese learning since I started (the only competitor being when I initially joined in the ABBC), so I’m happy to keep this up.
My goals are basically:
- Read every day for April/May (I did the bonus month for winter, but not committing to doing the same again in spring ahead of time - we’ll see how I feel in May)
- Keep up >= 1 manga volume/week. At the moment, that probably means finishing out 放浪息子、老女的少女ひなたちゃん and the part 1 manga of 本好きの下剋上。
- Finish the セーラー服と機関銃 book club with the IBC
- Read at least one other novel (of any kind). Most likely that will be the 本好きの下剋上第一部２ junior novel, but again, we’ll see what I feel like picking up.

snowwater’s home thread 
I took a break from the challenge last trimester after I did the JLPT because I wanted to take it easy (and because it had been quite a few weeks/months of studying intensively for the exam), but I’ve been able to adapt again to a rhythm which suits me well and I feel ready to join the challenge again (anyway, I’ve been keeping track of my weekly targets at this point, so might as well just do it here).
I’m not sure what my goal is for now - I’ll go with daily reading for April or May. Or maybe reading at least 5/7 days a week. I’ll be travelling abroad for most of June, so I’ll allow myself a break then (despite knowing I’ll still take some JP books along during my trip). I do have a goal for this year though: finish a Japanese book each trimester, so 4 a year. I’ve been struggling to finish キノの旅, which is my Jan-Mar goal, but I hope to at least be done with it by April and start a new book (tbd)! I also strive to keep up to date with my book club readings.

Just a heads up for Stardew Valley, it’s all machine translated as the game developer wanted to genuinely keep it a one-man project. It frequently has odd phrasing.

I clearly don’t aim for a perfect score myself, or else this title wouldn’t have made me feel strange in the first place
My first goal is to establish a reading habit in my life, so I don’t mind if I miss reading days as long as I don’t miss all of them (but I’ll say that in my home post which I’m being a little late to set 
)

Ah, you can’t really be late with this challenge, it’s picking up whenever you like. Plus if you’re worried about it being lower in the thread, you could always make a placeholder post.
