I don’t know how to format anything~~ (yet). So pardon the ugliness please.
It’s my last day of time off before I return to work tomorrow, so I focused on sampling some of the resources I gathered from recommendations in other threads. I’m not new to Japanese, but I’ve never recognized enough katakana or kanji to actually read anything before.
(Wow I just figured out how to italicize. Yay me )
My goal, at least for the first while, is to focus on smoothly reading (sounding out?) what’s written. Once I get more solid on that, I’ll work on parsing the sentences for meaning. How soon that happens will depend on how fast my actual ability to recognize the characters improves.
So for today, I read:
NHK News Easy: 2 articles
The first one I understood not at all. Something about a design and money. Lots of money.
The second one I understood enough to know that Japan is gonna have a lot of bears this year from November to April, especially in the Hokkaido and Tohoku areas. Unless I understood that completely wrong. There was a lot more about bears, but I didn’t understand those bits.
Tadoku Books: 3
I’m starting at level 0, so I picked 3 titles from the free section since they’re fairly short.
チワワの花すけおはなみ: A cute chihuahua goes flower viewing with its owner. It was cute. I understood maybe 50%?
2匹のカエル: A cute story about two frogs. I understood this one pretty well once I figured out that カエル meant and 匹 is a counter for said frogs. I know I said comprehension isn’t my goal but I was so pleased
あっ、まるい: a dog can’t find its ball and checks every circle to find it. I didn’t understand most of the words, but the illustrations made it easy to understand.
I also finished the second half of unit 4 in my grammar textbook, which I’m counting because it has sections that I have to read. Starting in unit 5, it’ll drop the romaji except for unknown kanji so it’ll extra count.
Also, I learned how to link things before the end of this post. Wooooo!
