消えた初恋 vol. 1 (bookwalker preview; p. 0 - p. 52)
I read about this in another thread and got curious. Therefore I checked out the preview. From the preview it seems quite comedic and also not that hard to read. Maybe I will check this out at a later time.

Some days ago I also read the bookwalker preview of 推しの子. Somehow because it was “just” the preview, I did not record it (neither here nor in my time recording app. But I also did not do the time recording with 消えた初恋). I thought it has a interested premise. But since it is still a little difficult for me, I will keep an eye on it for now and probably will read it as well at a later time.

Seasons says it’s 69 Day ロック Day. I’m going to celebrate by listening to “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.” Seasons also talked about olives and even brought up its symbolism in the story of Moses (iirc and I’m not mixed up with Noah). I guess around now is when olives typically bloom.

I really wanted to read 2 chapters of JoJo last night but there was/is a spider above my bed where my head goes and it put me on edge. If it hasn’t moved by tonight, it’s getting the vacuum >-< I did not sleep well. On the bright side, I finally made it to Rohan’s intro! My favorite Part 4 nutcase

Death Comes to Pemberley by PD James : chapter 1

Some Ouran two days ago, it is so weird to have a stamina of 4 pages for one session, when I literally read a whole volume of manga (another series) in one sitting a couple of months ago with good comprehension and no fatigue.

The difference is quite stark.

Death Comes to Pemberley keeps being good. The first half of chapter one felt a bit tedious when it was setting up the time and place of where we were, also a few too many details about how to make a ball happen. But as soon as that establishing shot was done, the juicy stuff started happening immediately.

The only reason I only read one chapter yesterday was that only a couple of hours earlier my internet stopped working, and I only read while having my morning cup of tea so I would feel better about getting in my car and going into town to pick up a new cable for the fiber network thingy (no idea what you’d call that in English, sorry). Also ran a few more errands. And thankfully all that was wrong, was that the previous cable adapter thingy had died in a more-or-less county wide temporary loss of electricity (my ability to remember English words right now is at one of its lowest marks apparently. Maybe because I haven’t had my morning cup of tea yet?). So once I got home and plugged in the new one, it worked like normal.

Huge relief.

However, it did make me realize how dependent I am on internet for a lot of my entertainment (I usually watch YT videos while having my morning cup), and Diablo 4 released in the last week and my friends are incredibly into that game, so I’m playing it to play together with them. I find Diablo a fun enough experience to go through the story (although it is a bit too bleak for me honestly, just all death and more death. I can guess all the story beats ahead of time, because guessing everyone will die leaves you right 95% of the time, spoiler for the general theme of all the games I guess? xD), but I don’t really find the game play that engaging. But for friends I’ll play it so we can play it together. That makes it a bit more fun.

But it also means I haven’t played TotK for over a week. I’m still max 25% through the game. I guess it means I will get to keep playing it for longer. Still need to play a bit more Diablo to catch up with my friends that went a bit crazy during opening weekend of the pre-release for pre-orders. I also played then, but not as much. xD

I really wanted to finish ハルｘキヨ and read some of the 四月は君の噓 ln today, but I it seemed like bookwalker was having some issues. Took a few minutes to get the login page to load, then couldn’t load my books. I like being able to buy the stuff I read and (generally) these services work fine enough, but it is really annoying not actually getting to have my own copy of the things I buy digitally, needing to log in through some finicky service to verify that I bought a copy of the thing I bought a copy of. (I know there’s tools you can use to get around this, but i still hate it in principle I want to buy the thing not access to the thing, but that’s often not a (legal) option for digital media anymore) I went and did some english reading, and by the time I came back it was working again enough to let me load 1 (one) single book, then broke again. oh well.

I’ll try again later in the day and see if it’s working better, but for now have to go work on other stuff

• ハルｘキヨ ch 3, ch 4 - finished this volume! Was a free one from the margaret magazine anniversary promotion on bookwalker. Was fun, but not enough for me to be interested in reading the rest, I don’t think.

Once I finally managed to get into bookwalker, I went through the 電撃 promotion, since a lot of first volumes are on sale for 10 yen (including book club series 三ツ星カラーズ, if you want to try that one out!) I had a bunch of coins, so they were effectively free to me, picked out 9 volumes from stuff that was either related to series I know (86, a certain magical index series, aobuta) or stuff I’d seen people post about (ひとりぼちの○○生活, エロマンガ先生) + a few others that the art looked fun on. I might never get around to reading them, but hey, free is free

• SPY×FAMILY mission 41. A Yuri chapter… I did little more than skim tbh. Thankfully he barely shows up in the rest of the volume.
• アオのハコ ch 5
• 29 pages of シャーク、シャーク、シャーク！ finishing the book. Another one in 4 days. All righty. Also, we don’t learn until the epilogue that Akiyama’s only 19 (while Samejima’s 28; his exact age we learned a few chapters before, but we still knew he was an adult and older than Akiyama from the beginning). That’s… gross. Lovely. And I recall him being referred to as a 大の男 before. “Grown man” absolutely does not make me think “teenager.” I thought he was like 22-24. If I’d known he was underage, I definitely woulda stayed away from this.

The downside is that Adobe is pretty hit or miss about actually rendering the books properly, but I think there’s also a Rakuten app and you could probably load the files in there? I know Adobe works even offline, not sure about Rakuten if using local files.

I started reading 僕はイエローでホワイトで、ちょっとブルー because I decided I was spending too much time on brainless apps and scrolling mindlessly and so should read something useful on my phone instead. I bought this on Honto a long time ago and Honto presents the same issues of a finicky service, lookups are something of a pain, had to jump through hoops to even download an Android app, etc. It will count towards my nonfiction goal of the year which is great as if I keep reading it as a replacement for mindless scrolling I’ll be done in a week or so. It’s pretty easy - I think it may be leveled a bit too high on Natively right now. I’d place it around 27-28.

I buy most of my LNs from Rakuten Kobo these days and I highly recommended getting Calibre and looking up a reddit guide for how to dedrm the Kobo files and turn them into epubs. No piracy issues because you’re still buying the books and you have the convenience of using them in a more accessible form. Definitely beats having to use Adobe or Kobo’s personal reader…

I’ve been meaning to check out Rakuten! Just haven’t had the motivation to learn a new sites promotions and stuff. I think I’ve seen somewhere there’s a script for doing the same thing with bookwalker stuff(dubiously legal). My Kindle is old enough that there was some issue with getting a jp dictionary on it, if I remember correctly from when I was messing around with it last year, which makes it a little bit less of an incentive to deal with. But reading in something on desktop, especially if I can get my dictionaries working with it, would be a big improvement over reading in bookwalkers annoying browser reader, so I might start looking into setting up that flow

Yeah! I love Calibre, that’s what I mainly use to read ebooks on desktop, just haven’t spent a ton of time reading jp ebooks with it. I did have to use this feature to get some of the stuff onto my kindle when I was using this, and it did end up working really well once I figured out the workflow and formatting stuff (probably matters more with manga than with text based stuff)
