Finished this weeks book club section.
It’s definitely too difficult for me. I am pretty sure, that I didn’t understand everything correctly. But I think I got the gist of everything at least. So I want to continue with the manga despite the difficulties. (And it looks like the book club will slow down a little in the future - which I very much appreciate).
And why do they add furigana at all in a manga with soooooo many handwritten parts which are without furigana? They should be consistent and add furigana to the handwritten parts as well

May 24th!

Today I read the final chapter of the final volume of Mitsuboshi Colors. I’ve been reading this with an offshoot club ever since it was an ABBC pick in November 2021 - so while it always feels good to finish a series, I’m also a little sad that its over!

I also did a tiny bit of unexpected reading! My sister in law bought an item of clothing that was made in Japan, and asked if I could read the care label for her. I needed a bit of help from a dictionary because there were quite a few kanji I didn’t recognise, and I double checked what I read with a translator since I didn’t want to get anything wrong but I was able to get the gist of the instructions so I was quite pleased with myself.

今日は崩壊：スターレイルと原神をプレイした。崩壊のシステムが解けた！実は私のレベルが低い過ぎるからあの敵が勝つことが出来なかった。でも、ちょっと自分で調べたから理解出来ました。そして話を進むことが出来た。明日からペルソナが再開するつもりだ。久しぶりだが楽しみ。

Yesterday did not go as I expected.

For Dracula, I finally finished Chapter 1. It was a great chapter. When I checked the original text, it seems I was off on some of the implications, but I understood the straightforward stuff.

read another chapter of 光(ひかる)が死(し)んだ夏(なつ) which i found easier, tho i was still looking some stuff up. some of it i just won’t understand and i’m okay with that. finally understood a bit i got confused on in the voice comic too, which is nice.

words that stood out: 相(あい)づち (backtalk, aizuchi. can also be all in kanji as 相槌(あいづち)), RTA (real-time attack. it’s a speedrunning term and completely blindsided me), and 吹聴(ふいちょう) (spreading (news, gossip) around) cos it has an awful reading.

I have to admit I wasn’t too fond of how the second half of the volume panned out with the whole absurd FPS game competition between 真唯(まい) and 紗月(さつき) with れな子(こ)'s hand in marriage supposedly on the line… the fact that that was the impetus made me unsure at any point if I was supposed to be taking the whole event seriously or not… not a great backdrop for actual relationship development between the two rivals.

Thankfully, looks like next volume is finally 紫陽花(あじさい)'s turn to shine!! The poor girl has been maligned by the in-world Powers That Be but I’m happy she finally gets a chance to air her feelings!!

Unrelated, but it just dawned on me yesterday that the word 誠(まこと) is a combination of the words 真(ま) and 事(こと) lol…

Word of the Day: 堪忍袋(かんにんぶくろ)の緒(お)が切(き)れる - to be out of patience. This figure of speech is amusing to me because despite the visual image of the string snapping, they still had to refer to the ‘patience bag’, whatever that is.

• 拐(かどわ)かす = to kidnap. Has Furigana.

Markus and Celestina solve a little jumping puzzle and find a room full of rune stones. But they’re not the exceptional runestones they’re looking for. Before they can search more thouroughly, a giant worm appears out of the ground!

Tell you what, I’m not gonna learn 攻撃(こうげき)態勢(たいせい) with any sort of urgency. Look how many strokes that is!
