I read it in English and enjoyed it. Someday i hope to read it in Japanese!

I had it on my to read list in english for ages, so when I saw the IBC primer club was going to read it in Japanese I decided to go for it! Its definitely a bit too difficult for me at the moment, and I’ve fallen really far behind the club, but I’m pleased with myself for sticking with it, and I’m really enjoying it even though I can only read a little bit at a time before tiring myself out!
I hope you get to re-enjoy it in Japanese in the future!

that or my brain has just memorized every single example sentence because learning a plethora of examples is so much easier than actually memorizing a few small rules that apply to them all globally rather than each individually, you wouldn’t do that to me would you, right brain?

Hmm, you could try changing the window size so you can’t see the potential answers and have to think before you scroll and see them? You can grey out all the potential answers for vocab and kanji in your global settings, but it doesn’t work for grammar for some reason. Tbh, I might put in a request for that on the discord.

Seasons was about how it’s getting colder, which I really feel rn lmao.

As for JoJo , I really wanted to work on finishing the volume, so I read it instead of Ouran last night. But I fell asleep and hit myself in the face twice while reading, so I gave up for the night lol. I was surprised during this arc though. It’s different from the anime, so that’s pretty exciting. I’ve enjoyed this arc in the anime quite a bit, so it’s interesting to see it in manga form.

As for rotten family I’m reading it in a book club on discord with @shuly. If you’d like to join us, please feel free to @ !

Pleased to be reading this at a nice clip! I have two chapters left in the volume, plus the おまけ under the dust jacket and some character profiles at the end of the book (though I kind of see the profiles as optional).

Having watched the anime, it’s kind of interesting to come across sections that were adapted along with ones that weren’t (namely, anything with Nozaki’s family). I don’t really know how companies decide which adaptations will get 1 season versus 2 or more (before knowing how well it’s received, I mean), but I suppose in Nozaki-kun’s case, they only wanted to do 12 (?) episodes, and they frankly had enough characters for that without also roping his younger brother in. That just makes it more interesting to read, though; surprises throughout and all that.

If only I went through JLPT prep at a similar rate…

I was discussing slice of life anime/manga with a friend earlier, and he told me I should check out this older series that I’d never heard of called 侵略！イカ娘. I thought I’d check it out for fun since the first volume is on sale on bookwalker right now. oh my god it’s fun

I see a couple other challenge participants have read it already on natively, it just slipped passed me I guess But it’s very much my speed.

Today’s Non-fiction reading was about why axolotls have the funny common name ウーパールーパー (hint: it’s a カップ焼きそば ad !)

Thanks for sharing this! I wondered about the name when it came up in the discord, so this was a neat read! I’m a bit surprised that it seems to have no connection to oompa loompas… what a strange coincidence, haha!

The article talks about them being アルビノ but I don’t think they are? They’re leucistic, they still have some pigment (I guess there is a word for it in jp too: 白変種 - Wikipedia

The article actually mentions this!

野生のウーパールーパーは黒や褐色のものが多くて、日本でよく知られているピンク色のものはアルビノもしくは白変種です。アルビノは色素がないので目は赤くなるのですが、白化個体は色素は少ないものの有るので目は黒くなります。これを「リューシスティック」と言います。

It says that wild axolotls are often black or dark brown, and the pink ones that are widely known in Japan are albino, or are leucistic. Albinos have no pigment, so their eyes are red, but 白化個体 (it looks like Yomichan’s definition for this is wrong, lol. It seems like it means more like “whitened individuals”, not “albino” specifically) have a little pigment, so their eyes are black. This is called “leucistic”.

So I guess axolotls can be either albino or leucistic!

day of distractions today but not in a bad way! got bored and watched the crows zero films over the past couple of days and against better judgement they’ve wiggled their way into my brain so today i read the samples for the original manga, worst (which is a sequel manga), and the two crows zero adaptations (why it got a reboot i have no idea). i didn’t mean to do all of them it just kind of happened then my dad sent me a song (nsfw title warning) with some japanese spoken word and was like hey what does this mean so that took up some time. still managed 110 pages or so of jjk 12

today’s nhk article was this one, and i read the entry on ば～ほど in aDoIJG. more kurohyou later.

You can grey out all the potential answers for vocab and kanji in your global settings, but it doesn’t work for grammar for some reason. Tbh, I might put in a request for that on the discord.

This sounds like a great idea! It’d be real useful for grammar, especially for the later stages of mastery, surprised it’s not already a feature if it already is for vocab/kanji.
I’ll try the zoom thing for now, thanks for the suggestion, I do try and guess when I feel that I know what grammar it’s going to be - the disappointment when the grammar you think it should be isn’t even an option

It says that wild axolotls are often black or dark brown, and the pink ones that are widely known in Japan are albino, or are leucistic. Albinos have no pigment, so their eyes are red, but 白化個体 (it looks like Yomichan’s definition for this is wrong, lol. It seems like it means more like “whitened individuals”, not “albino” specifically) have a little pigment, so their eyes are black. This is called “leucistic”.

HA that’s funny You caught me almost exactly where I stopped reading that article and went to check wikipedia to answer my own questions. If I’d just been patient I guess this article would’ve answered them too
