Super happy that I am still able to maintain reading as usual, since December is pretty busy with both the origami calendar and the advent of code!
Decided that I will stop (temporarily) reading ISLAND when I read the end of the route I’m on, which I expect will be soon (couple of weeks max). That’s just because I want to join Flowers in January, won’t have finish ISLAND completely before that and don’t want to be playing two VNs at the same time, so I’ll just stop ISLAND when I reach the end of this route. Will make it funnier too to start on another route in a few months, might even replay the prologue without skipping things, to refresh the story and see if I can notice any progress I’ve made!

- Started スライム倒して300年、知らないうちにレベルMAXになってました 1巻 | L24. Thank god it has furigana because the amount of new vocab (to me) is insane! So far I have basically the same opinion as I did in English, which is that it’s Nice Enough.
- Finally got around to this week’s chapter of ヤニ吸う, which was a nice one.

- ARIA the Natural 0:00 → 1:00 (60 min) - a package with some christmas gifts got here today, and included in that was two ps2 games that I got for myself as another little treat! Language wise, probably somewhere between 28 and 30, there’s a lot of descriptive/narrative text compared to the manga, and it still has some of the quirky speech from the manga as well. (1 hour was about my reading stamina limit while already tired, so it’s definitely easier than persona)
- a bit more 式守 I forget how much I was really tired last night lol
vndb say’s they’re short, 10-30 hours, but have branching paths. I couldn’t find anything about a route map or anything, sooo i’ll just try to be good about using my save files

・サイレント・ウイッチ II (35% → 43%)
Read a bit in the morning before exam. Exam went fine, I think. Nerves didn’t get to me too much, fortunately. It definitely helped to do some jiggling and wiggling and stretching like a weirdo while waiting to be called in.
Word: 前倒し (まえだおし) = accelaration (e.g. of payment schedule), front-loading, moving forward (e.g. plans).
There was a funny scene with that word where the vice president of the student council secretly finished paper work early to tag along with the president in another activity.

Advent has started, and though I’d originally planned to continue reading at least one volume of manga per day, I could feel burnout creeping up on me at the end of last month, so I decided not to push myself, which means I’ve only finished two volumes so far. Oh well, I should be able to clean up most of the remaining ones after Advent. (I hope. 2 finished out of 5 started ⇒ 8/20 with 12 left over and 7 days. But if not, nbd)

Read:
- ARIA the Natural 1:00 → 2:20 (80 min) Played to the end of the first chapter. The format of this VN is pretty interesting, at least for the ones I’ve played. There’s a blue text box on the bottom for character dialogue, options, and narrative stuff, and all the characters pop up with their own speech bubbles and their icons more around the screen as they enter/exit conversations (even having a character head be half off the screen as they’re shouting back at a conversation they’re leaving). The music is also pretty nice, which was one of the biggest selling points of the show for me. This game is also a lil spooky! I noticed that on the save files it also says 通常ルート on the ones I’ve made so far, so that might be a hint for when I encounter actual important choices. With a clear head, it’s definitely a much easier read than persona still a surprising amount of n1 words i’m looking up though

・サイレント・ウイッチ II (43% → 100%)
I finished book 2 of Silent Witch. Things got too exciting when it was about time to go to sleep. It got very late.
This time before I started the book, I cleared the history in my Takoboto dictionary app. I wanted to know the amount of lookups. History list in the app registers all the words/entries I click from the search results (kanji are excluded, I think). I didn’t check the entire list, but I know not all of them are words that showed up in the book:
- e.g. 深煎り from friend’s package of crunchy roasted almond pocky,
- some entries are related to each other (丹精を込める vs just 丹精),
- some I just clicked because they showed up in the search results (極超音速滑空兵器)
With those included, there are 192 registered entries in the history list. (I could’ve made an own list just for this book, but that’s a huge waste of time for each lookup. Easier to just move them over to a new list afterwards.)
This book has 352 pages, so an average of one lookup per 2nd page? Not bad I’ll check how I do for book 3. I tend to look up all the words I’m unsure of so I can be more sure next time. Good form of review when the word appears a second time in the book. (And then there are all the one-time words… That’s a topic for another time.)

- my next book coin flip led me to ‘book in series you already started’, so figured I would continue with a higher-level read with the shoujo/sol/cooking series I’m slowly working my way through, トナリはなにを食う人ぞ ほろよい 3 | L27. Not much to say other than the きのこ和風マリネ they made today looks amazing… although I always find their portion sizes to be ridiculously small. I did have to do about 38 lookups in 15 pages though, lol.

I had a look at 土の中の子供 but I think its a bit too grim for my tastes. But I saw 去年の冬、きみと別れ by the same author and decided to try it. I’m enjoying it so far.
