More めがね忘れた1. As someone who needs glasses, I’m not sure I jive with their portrayal of needing glasses, which is obviously exaggerated for comedic effect, but whatever. It’s an easy enough read and I should be able to wrap it in another session probably. Will probably chuck it on the ‘it’s okay’ pile.
Granted, I wouldn’t expect anyone to go through a few volumes of “it’s okay” just to get to the better material, and even at its best, it’s still 3.5 out of 5 stars material.
(I’ve enjoyed the series overall, though, and always look forward to a new volume releasing.)
I think it’s easy enough and the Kindle unlimited availability changes the value proposition substantially. I don’t know if I would bother buying it all, but I’ll read a volume here and there on unlimited when I want a break from my harder reads, I think.
/edit lol i was fooled only the first vol is on Kindle Unlimited. Oh well, i guess this is how they getcha
I finally got caught up with Smoking again! This chapter didn’t interest me as much as the last one though.
I started Ouran 3 before I thought about it and realized I could be trying to finish some volumes instead.
I think trash only has maybe 120 pages? It’s a 2 volume manga and not particularly interesting or good. I impulsively bought it. I realized though, it’s probably the easiest of my currently reading pile which is stupidly large. I’m currently reading 9 different series. If I hadn’t finished JoJo 64, it’d be 10… 2 are book clubs I’m caught up with, 2 are page a day type books, 3 are book clubs I’m behind on, and the other 2 are trash and Stake which I’m just reading for myself. I really need to finish those two series up lol. Or like the 1 volume of Stake I’m reading this year and the 2 volumes of trash . That way in the new year I’ll survive adding JoJo back as a book club and trying to read Parts 6-9 lol.
Seems I can read a volume of Daiya in ~1.5-2 hrs now. I can absolutely read more than 1 or even 2 in a day now, but I still generally spend that time doing other things.
after a productive day i’ve now finished everything in the main game! can’t believe i forgot the puppet theatre thing yesterday, of the minigames it definitely took the longest and was the most difficult thanks to its ‘fill in the blank’ format out of 24 word options (no kanji). lots of reading content tho, cos each incorrect option for each blank had unique fail text based on the word you picked.
today’s nhk article was this one, finished the granblue chapter from yesterday, and read the entries on または and 目 in aDoIJG
(more than usual) words that stood out:
レイトン教授:
功を奏する(こうをそうする)(to bear fruit, to succeed)
歪(いびつ)(crooked, irregular, warped, oval)
座右の銘(ざゆうのめい)(favourite motto, pet saying)
回文(かいぶん)(palindrome)
両生類(りょうせいるい)(amphibian)
ミーハー (follow the crowd type, sheep. shortened form of みいちゃんはあちゃん)
一途(いちず)(wholehearted, straightforward, earnest, devoted to)
btw leak in ceiling seems to be fixed (faulty seal in one of the pipes). but considering this is the second time i’m not too hopeful
Yesterday I had to stop reading a Fujiki episode because something happened in it that caught me off guard. So I don’t know if I’ll return to the series or not. Maybe I’ll just skip ahead.
However, I made it to 3% in HP!
I’m expecting to get in a bit more this evening with the 2nd grade biographies and Reading Road.
I had a bit of an insight on the NHK news:
On NHK News EASY - I can read an article (300 characters) with about 3-4 lookups. When I try to read the normal news article equivalent, I generally have as many or more lookups in the headline and first sentence alone! So I normally don’t bother. But today I pushed through that a bit, and I found reading the normal news after the easy one helped me to better understand the shortcuts in the normal headlines, and reading just a bit of the normal news article helped me understand the accompanying video better. And then I discovered, what the presenter in the video says is fairly close (not exactly though) to that written in the main article, so that’s helpful to know! I don’t know if that is typical, but here is the example I read today: easy article about cat baskets, normal article.
I read the easy article, cute! It’s pretty interesting to compare the vocabulary in the easy vs normal article.
Thanks, yeah, it sucks when stuff sneaks up on you. It’s okay though, I might just skip ahead, or try a different story.
And I can only get faster! I’m thinking about testing my reading speed for a single page soon so I can test again at the end of the book and see how I improved.
I don’t know what happened these past few days, something just clicked? Or maybe because it’s been more dialogs and less descriptions recently? Whichever, I’m starting to feel like I understand more and more of ISLAND without translating or looking things up! What a feeling! So I will try and increase how much I read everyday.
Finished メガネ忘れた1。I discovered only volume 1 is on Unlimited which makes sense, I guess it’s a filler/discovery model (probably works out better for them than the full Netflix model)… I’ll keep an eye out for deals on the rest of the series, it really does fit into my ‘easy enough’ read niche.
Started 女ともだちと結婚してみた。 1 | L25. Language-wise quite nice and slice of life. Storywise, feeling a bit weird about it cos it’s like… a weird kind of friend-marriage, but it’s just the start of the story so obviously there’s room to move.
Trash is about 140 pages, not 120 like I thought. I’m definitely finishing vol 1 tonight. Dunno if I’ll start vol 2 this week or next. I’ve been doing some reading already today and I want to catch up for Asterism I’ve only gotten through 1 pages so far today, but it would be nice to be on track for it so that I’d soon only be behind on Nausicaa. I’ve got to figure out a time to reread the first chapter of JoJo too in order to make comprehension questions for it, but I’ve got a month for that yet
…there were more puzzles only 15, and about half of those were sliding puzzles that i’ve been unabashedly cheating my way through (look, when the minimum moves is 107, i’ve got no hope). with those done, that unlocked the character profiles and artwork (which comes with descriptions not in-game). i also went to the effort of unlocking the ‘secret door’ which requires a password from a different game entirely and… it was just concept art. ah well.
today’s nhk article was this one, did a full granblue chapter, and read the entries on 面(めん)and みせる in aDoIJG.
words that stood out:
レイトン教授:
配管(はいかん)(plumbing, piping)
格子(こうし)(lattice, grid, grating)
グランブルー:
盤石(ばんじゃく)(huge rock, firmness, solidarity. reading catches me out every time)
the last day! feels like this time flew by. well, last day of posting at least, i’ll keep reading in the meantime and see if i can finish prof layton before the next time rolls around! i don’t think i will as always congrats to everyone who finished (regardless of days done), and see you all again in the new year
差し違える = to misplace. Pun with 刺し違える (= to stab each other; to make sacrifice in order to harm). Also sounds like 履き違える (to mistake one thing for another).
取り返しがつかない = unrecoverable. Like 再起不能.
御しやすい = easy to influence. The verb is 御する, perhaps like controlling a horse (御者).
