One Piece Manga Reading Club 🏴‍☠️ (Currently Reading: Vol 1)

Late August, early September is fine with me if it makes it easier for others.

Also just by registering you get 100 free points so you can rent 3 additional chapters. And registering is pretty simple. So if you can read a whole chapter in 48 hours, you can read the most of the first volume for free.

Hm. I do have physical copies of the first couple volumes. Maybe I can squeeze this in. I’ve been looking for an excuse to put in another order from Mandarake anywho.

My biggest regret is, during my first trip to Japan, not buying the full set of all chapters from a book off at their great price. (Not that I had room in my suitcase anyway) I’ve never seen a full set nearly that cheap since.

That 50% off applies to the listed price, making each volume about 91 yen.

Yo, yo

I’m really trying to do a lot more reading. Going through Kiki’s with the Bookclub R N. Definitely in to give One Piece a shot! I voted September, but honestly could do it whenever. Going with the flow

This is great! I think it’s a good way to test your skills, and maybe if you feel like you can keep up then buy the physical copy?
Thanks for the share!
edit: also Kinokuniya is publicly open again!

Time to close the start date poll! Although August 5th has the most votes, I’m going to go completely off the script and say let’s start September 2nd. It seems like it would be nice to give a few weeks for people to potentially get physical copies if they’d like, and also see if anyone else wants to join in the meantime.

Also, I somehow managed to break the start date poll when I tried to be fancy and hide it, so now it’s gone forever… :expressionless:

I did the same mistake in BSD thread

The trick is to copy the html behind the details

Ahhh, that’s good to know! Next time…

I am torn. On one hand I think it would be fun, on the other hand I am already part of 8 book clubs and will be part of 10 by the time this starts…

There is a Japanese app that lets you read the manga for free, one chapter a day.
The app itself is entirely in Japanese, so might not be too easy to navigate for some.
Also though I haven’t used an e-reader before so can’t compare, the UI probably isn’t as good.
BUT! Free!

I saw now that the start date was set. I’ve never been in any other reading club though. How does it usually works?

Book is divided into smaller pieces, and each piece gets its own week. During that week, members discuss grammar, vocab and a plot. That’s… basically it, I think?
