Hmm, yeah, DR is hard to categorize with that because the bulk of the text is unvoiced while the trials are fully voiced
Have you tried the Infinity series? Ever17 and Remember11 are two I played. Remember11 isn’t romance oriented, Ever17 is but only somewhat. It’s more mystery-heavy. The only thing is I’m not sure where to get them (legally) at this point since I got them ages ago through err, maybe not the most legit means (in my defense, there was no way to buy them digitally and physical copies were selling for over $100). They have full voice acting though and are playable on PC in English and Japanese if you can find them.
I’ve really wanted to play AI: Somnium Files because I’ve heard good things but that PC only restriction The only PC I have access to is my old desktop at my parents’ house (which coincidentally, I’m staying at right now )
A port is when a game that’s released on one platform is moved to another platform. For instance, there are Steam ports of Playstation Vita games (games that were originally made for a handheld console that had versions made to be playable on the computer).
Hmm, there are some mobile games I play in Japanese that have full voice acting but I’m not sure if you’d be interested in them. One is an otome game about guys with superpowers and the other is a game about saving the world through fashion battles If you do want to check them out, the names are 恋とプロヂューサー and シャイニングニキ (or the previous installment, ミラクルニキ). They’re free to play, just requires a Japanese Apple account (you can sign up with your regular email and tack +jp on the end like something@email .com+jp). You can get them on android too but that involves VPNs afaik.
For some weird reason, I understood the question as being about audio books, but for light novels, lol.
But, yeah, I’ve also played some good Visual Novel games. The problem now would be to get them to run…I haven’t tried with my new computer. On the other hand, I also have some VN games for my 3DS, so I could always give that a go now that I actually know more kanji. ^^
@Todd_A It’s great that you’ve gotten a lead for some stuff you wanna try, and having even ordered DRAMAtical Murder! Don’t be too shocked by some of the stuff though. (I’m fairly sure, there’s a longer discussion in the yaoi thread about how brutal some of the themes are. lol ). There’s also 2 BLCDs to the game (?) if I remember correctly.
If you’re into BL stuff, maybe just google BLVN games and see what you get. Or yaoi VN games. Expect adult themes if you do though!
As for Flesh & Blood, I’m planning a relisten to the whole series, but also to purchase the light novel series. I think I’m getting to a point where I should be able to read it. Or so I hope! Though I might start off with Sanzen Sekai…
Edit: Also, I remember Hanamachi Monogatari as being fully voiced…don’t remember if that included the monologues/narration? I guess, it’s also a question if you enjoy that sort of story…^^;
Ooh thanks to @VictorLino for finding this list of dual-language visual novels for PC!
I’m currently streaming Nekopara on a WK discord and found out that it has the option to have both simultaneous English and Japanese subtitles along with the JP voice acting, which I’ve never seen before! Fair warning though that the game has NSFW tags and fanservice It’s quite cute and fluffy so far though.
I looked for ways to turn it off but no such luck unfortunately. I haven’t completed a playthrough yet so I can’t judge the level of fanservice. All it’s been so far is one pantsu shot so pretty tame. I have a low tolerance for lolicon stuff and so far I haven’t had an issue with it but I’ll let you know if that changes. There’s a free otome catboy version coming out tomorrow so I’ll give that a try too and report back (otome stuff is typically non-sexual unless it’s labelled as r18).
Can confirm, I just hit a shower scene and it’s pretty censored. More than anything I’m just like “aww, so cute, they hate the water because cats” I wouldn’t play it at work or anything but it’s not that offensive.
Oh that’s good to know! I didn’t see it as DLC on the store page but if that’s the case, that’s a relief. This game is so cute and wholesome so far, I’d really prefer it with those scenes removed. I do know that I have other games though which have that as an optional patch. It’s nice that there’s the option for people who either do or do not want that stuff included.
Thank you so much for the recommendation! I’m finding it really enjoyable so far!
My favorite rn is Laurier. Normally I would be annoyed by such an aggressively confident and forward character, but with the panini still ongoing, I am appreciating the aggressive cuddles even if they’re virtual lol
Yeah, I played through Sage’s route so far and found it really fluffy and sweet. Great listening practice too. Since MC doesn’t talk, I can just ignore the text for the most part and listen to the other characters’ voice acting. I’m hoping that it gets enough of a positive response to warrant a full version.
He seems like a sweetheart. I’m really glad that I accidentally had the volume on at first as I agree that they are great listening material, plus their voices are just nice. Having played what I have so far, I would definitely shell out money if they continue this spinoff. I’ll try out the originals too now for sure.
Listening to this on a break and having a good time. You could block the subtitles for more listening practice and then check your comprehension by listening again with the subtitles visible. He switches pretty naturally between English and Japanese. I’m really enjoying listening, but I seem to already know a lot of sushi related words.
I’ve been listening to two podcasts, namely 関西人の与太話 and 大阪育ちハーフの三兄弟 . The former is a solo podcast by a Kansai Man who talks about his weekly experiences and a couple of news in the media in a slight Kansai-ben accent while the latter are full on Hafus raised in the Southern, more rural region of Osaka and their Kansai-ben accent is super strong, even more than most 関西人s
I’ve got no recommends of my own yet - but will work my way through some of the suggestions here. I’ve realised that I often fall asleep to video game podcasts and then wake up and need to listen to them again. So I figure popping on a Japanese podcast before drifting off might be a better use of my time. Will let you know.
