Comprehensible Japanese - Hina Dolls
These dolls are very cute and one day I want to read about why each doll has these specific implements. Probably something to do with the Japanese court? Anyway, I highly recommend this video because it contains a miniature version of the Hina Doll display and it’s very, very cute.

Comprehensible Japanese - Ryoma Sakamoto
Or Foot-of-the-Hill Dragonhorse man. That’s a pretty cool name! I think I want to learn all my history lessons by watching easy videos in a language I’m trying to learn. Even when I’m interested in a topic, taking some stuffyness out of it makes it much more fun. And because not everything is given in detail you also have an easier time asking questions. “What happened then? What does that mean? Who were those other people?”
Like right now, where I’m reading through the wikipedia article to learn more. Clearly this method is effective on some people at least.

Busy (and tiring) days, so not much listening. The episode I listened to yesterday was rated ~N4 level, and I don’t know if it was the topic (or the girls trying to not make the conversation too hard), but I found it a bit boring to be honest… I skipped a few N4/N5 level episodes and listened to 36 today, which was about things foreigners in Japan have trouble with - it was definitely a more pleasant listening and interesting topic. There’s only one more episode left for now though, since I’ve almost caught up, which is a bit sad.

Haven’t felt like posting much, but I’m still doing my thing. Actually focusing a little more on listening recently, as it’s the skill I’m feeling a little less satisfied with my skill in. Been watching some RTA in Japan speedruns and following the commentary pretty decently overall.
Geogussr speedruns are so impressive and it’s cool hearing him describe the little features of roadsigns and the like he can use to pinpoint the country.

- White Day - I completely zoned out here. No idea what was going on. Guess that’s my cue to go to sleep.

Japanese Tea Ceremony 茶道 - Intermediate Japanese 日本語中級 (~5 min)
Noriko was talking about a book called アウトプット大全, which basically says that you output is essential for learning a language… which I agree of course, I just completely never apply it for Japanese /: I also learned a bit more about the tea ceremony from Comprehensible Japanese.
Tomorrow I’m hoping to catch up with Kurzgesagt - my week was so busy, I completely forgot I hadn’t even started on this week’s part…

August 16th!
Episode 10 of Shadows House today. There was a bit towards the end that I wan’t able to follow very well, so after the episode had finished I rewatched that bit in English. It was a bit where it was adult characters talking to each other rather than the younger characters whose speech I’m more familiar with so possibly thats why I found it a it bit tougher than usual.

I barely listened to anything yesterday, but made up for it today. I listened to the last ことのは日本語の会話 available for now, which was about 割り勘. It’s always interesting for me to learn about cultural differences. I also enjoyed the 2 episodes from YUYU: one about (new) things he noticed when he returned to Japan, and the other about the cultural shock he got when he moved to Mexico. These podcasts were actually released in 2020 (that’s already 3 years ago…) so I wonder how much has changed since then.
I didn’t manage to catch up on Kurzgesagt yesterday, but I started on it today. I wanted to do more, but I’m already quite tired, so maybe tomorrow.

Episode 11 of Shadows House today. Some stuff happened that I don’t remember happening in the manga so I couldn’t rely on my knowledge of the story to help me understand those parts, and I’m quite pleased with how much I managed to understand.
August 20th!
Episode 12 of Shadows House today. Only 1 more episode left of Season 1 now. Again stuff was happening that I don’t remember happening in the manga, so I’m hoping that its actually new stuff added for the anime rather than me accidentally spoilering something that happens later in the manga for myself!
I’ll probably pause watching this after S1 and pick it up again after I finish the manga.

softlyraining’s old summer radio 
As I mentioned in the summer reading challenge, the last couple of months have been crazy busy for me. 
That being said, things have settled down a bit, and I wanted to keep my streak of participating in the listening challenges going. So, for the next week and a half, I’ll try to carve out a little bit of time each day to listen to something. I’d like to try and finish the year strong and listen every day from now until the end of December, but that’s something to worry about at a later date.

I challenged myself to listen to some more Kurzgesagt and I ended up finishing the whole video, and watched/listened to it for the longest I’ve ever done up to now! I’m very happy with that, since it’s probably the most challenging listening practice I’m doing currently.

Today I was able to do more extensive listening during chores/commute. I’m caught up with ことのは日本語の会話, so I’ve been searching for a new podcast to follow. Spotify randomly recommended me Sayuri (episode 173 - ふるさと). It was enjoyable, but I felt a bit too comfortable with the level; I need a bit more listening challenge right now (which I was getting with ことのは). So I’ll look around different series for the next few days. Probably listen to a bit of Yuyu too, since I find the level of his podcasts to be good for me.

I listened to the most recent episode of Yuyu and was surprised at how the pace was faster compared to his earlier podcasts. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit and it made me stay more alert when listening. Funny enough, the theme of the episode were 3 things he noticed when he returned to Japan, which was quite similar to a previous podcast I heard from him - from 3 years before. Oh, and I also learnt about さよならさんかくまたきてしかく from Noriko. I really enjoyed it too!
