KW Blur (Experimental Beta Version 0.9 )

by acm

This is a small script to improve the KaniWani experience. It adds a heavily blurred version of the kanji solution to the review question. The items on the same WK level often have similar meanings, so this script should help to to figure out if the answer should be long or short, with okurigana, …

Installation Instructions

  1. Get Tampermonkey (installation instructions in this thread)
  2. Click on the installation link (Tampermonkey should auto-detect .user.js files)
  3. Install the script after you check the security (at least see that script will only change the kaniwani website, all @include should be related to KW )

FAQ

Q. Is this cheating?
A. Definitely. At least a little bit. You can now even use Rikaichan on the blurred version (but at least you cannot select the text to see the solution). Too obvious characters may be replaced with or something in the future.

Q. Nothing happens at all?
A. I noticed that occasionally a script is not even started in KW, try reloading the page.

This seems pretty neat. Is it still functional?

I installed it in Tampermonkey and it says that it is enabled, but I don’t see it appearing when I go on KW. I tried reloading the page many times, restarting Firefox and reinstalling the script, but to no avail.

At least it works for me in Chrome and Firefox … Are you using www.kaniwani.com? The www is necessary at the moment, just found out that KW doesn’t redirect there.

If the script shows as active in the icon (there is a small number there that shows how many scripts change a page), you can check the web console (Ctrl-Alt-K) and see if there are any error messages.

Sounds interesting. I’ve been struggling with same meaning words for a while and have been depending on just adding synonyms to get past it. This would definitely help in diversifying my vocabulary instead of just using the same synonym every time.

Yes, I am using that address, but I’m dumb, though. I didn’t have any reviews left to do yesterday, so I went in the lessons by inadvertence instead. Sorry for bothering you and thanks for the script!

Hmm it should also do something at the lessons

I also added the domain kaniwani.com directly in case someone is using it that way.
