Is WaniKani suited for not native English people?

Thanks for your answer! The SRS Concept is what got me interested in the first place. I sie Anki for the vocab of my Genki Book and it works really well so I was looking for something with good SRS specifically for Kanji

Do you have a recommendation for the Undo Script or can I just use the first one that comes up when I google?
Sometimes I type the meaning instead of the reading so that would be helpful

BTW there is an anki deck with all the vocabulary for Genki I and II which I’ve used alongside the books!

For scripts, as I said right now you can’t really use many because they are still being repaired. Two that are working again and essential in my opinion are “Reorder Omega” and “Double Check”. They are also compatible with each other.
Reorder Omega allows you to sort the items for example by radical > kanji > vocabulary, or by SRS stage or however you like. That way if you have a specific strategy you could always work on radicals and kanji first and only on vocabulary if you have time. Trotzdem mit Vorsicht genießen damit du dich nicht selbst boykottierst
Double Check allows you to press Esc if you made a typo and wanikani didn’t accept it as correct eventhough it actually was. Also use with care!! Don’t boycot yourself and correct something that was actually wrong.
There are tons of other scripts (Heatmap or Ultimate Timeline are two others that I love) and ultimately using them will make wanikani the best SRS out there for you (imho)

If you consider buying the lifetime subscription wait until december, they usually have a sale at the end of the year which makes it much cheaper!

I don’t find it problematic but I think I’m not bad at English compared to many of my fellow countrymen. Sometimes I learn new words in English in Wanikani, thought It’s quite rare.
(About the mnemonics, for a significant part I don’t use them, it seems my mind memorizes the kanji pronunciation in a more abstract way.)

But think about this this way: if you learn to intent to live in Japan or communicate with Japanese people, you’ll be happy to have somehow improved your English in the process. Basically in Japan the Japanese is very important there (obviously lol), but if you can’t communicate in Japanese, the second most important language you may be able to communicate with will be English, so you better have a very fluent English level to compensate your growing-but-yet-limited Japanese skills. I’m not living there so some people may correct me, but it seems from what I have heard so far in job offers, that finding a job there without Japanese skills is hard, but finding a job there without Japanese nor English skills is barely possible.

I’m from Belgium so also non native and for a long time wasn’t sure if wanikani is the best choice for me but didn’t find another good app. For the moment the mnemonics work and when they don’t work I find my own.

So when after I learned all the free levels I got a coupon, I thought a lot about it and recently subscribed.

ja, viele der Englischen Hilfen oder Beschreibungen passen nicht für uns. Ich nutze die Gelegenheit aber auch um ein paar Englische Vokabel wieder mal zu lernen. Ich bin im Englischen auch kein Crack. Viel wichtiger ist, sich das System anzueignen, Geschichten zu erfinden die zu einem passen. Die Zeit die man sich nimmt dafür spart man bei den Wiederholungen.

Also, meine Antwort wäre wenn Du Dir Englische Filme mit Untertitel ansehen kannst, hast Du hier keine Probleme.

Conclusion in English: When you have a certain understanding of English, it should be no problem. You have to find mnemonics which work for you anyway.
