I would have missed this radical anyway, but the image used by tsurukame was enough different from the native wanikani that I didn’t recall ever having seen it before.

Probably a font issue. Do you have Japanese as a system language?

P.S. Don’t forget you can install other fonts in Tsurukame

Yes, I have Japanese installed as a system language, and I use other fonts in tsurukame— that’s actually the feature that motivated me to switch from the native WK web app. But for radicals that aren’t also kanji, the other fonts don’t work.

I’ve been having problems with syncing my data. First reviews, and now even new words I’ve learnt, aren’t being recognised as done on the Wani Kani website. I have been doing some offline since I don’t have service much where I am, and the new vocab I have learnt offline hasn’t been appearing in Wani Kani or Tsurukame when I checked. (They only show in the pi graph). I’m not totally sure what to do since I do want to continue learning new words but they won’t appear on the website on my computer when I am able to use that again.

Have you tried logging out of the app on your mobile phone, restarting the mobile phone, and then logging back in? This helped me when I had something similar happen to me a few months ago. Worth a try at least. Good luck and happy New Year.

Thank you! I tried that and while I lost some of my newer vocab, I retained a lot more than expected and both the website and app have matched up. A late happy new year to you too

Can we please have pitch accent information on Tsurukame? To me this is one of the most important things required, and I find that when I review on Tsurukame I switch over to my pitch accent dictionary to check I remembered the pitch accent correctly between reviews almost every single time.

If possible, could there also be a feature (probably toggleable) that flashes up the pitch accent diagram after you answer a reading question to make sure you got it right, so you don’t have to wait to answer the meaning question to check?

Also, you’re probably already aware but just in case you aren’t, there still seem to be issues syncing reviews from Tsurukame to wk. Or is it just me and there’s a known fix?

There is! Check out the TestFlight beta!

Where do I find that?

That feature request looks a bit stale, any idea if anything is happening with it?

I’m not currently working on it. I haven’t heard anything public about it.

I see I’ve missed a whole year of discussion about a new version of the app, but I did want to add something to the other posts that are already around about synch issues.

Yesterday, on airplane mode (on a plane), I did 100 reviews or so that I intentionally let pile up the day before. I also did 20 or so lessons. At the end, when I landed, I had 0 reviews and about 75 lessons available on Tsurukame. I’ve never had an issue synching after flights.

I knew something went wrong because the new lessons I did in the air never reappeared to be on the timeline for reviews after I landed. So I went to the WK website for the first time in a few weeks and was surprised to see that I had 500+ reviews (!!!) instead of the 0 in Tsurukame and about double the lessons (150 instead of 75).

I didn’t do 500 reviews yesterday, or 75 lessons. I logged out if Tsurukame and back in, and unfortunately, the WK site total won the battle. I really don’t know what portions of work were erased but… ouch. (I’m so close to finishing and just want this to end, not have more reviews piled up than at any point before level 60).

Obviously I’ll just avoid using it on airplane mode, but that doesn’t seem to account entirely for what happened, as I don’t think I’ve had any other stretches of using it without service. Edit: It’s possible this was a backup of several flights from weeks or months ago. Reviews always worked normally between these times when I didn’t have service, and I don’t check WK regularly (only use tsurukame), so I wouldn’t have noticed a disconnect.

There are some syncing issues - use the TestFlight beta if you aren’t already

I use tsurukame on an iPad with a magic keyboard. As of this morning, the interface for entering answers during lesson quizzes is misbehaving. In the default view, the area for inputting the answer is now so short that the icons showing what terms are part of the lesson block it and prevent me from being able to see what I type, as shown in the first image. I can get around this by removing the iPad from the magic keyboard, which shifts the input area up to accommodate the on screen keyboard, and when I reattach to the keyboard, the shift remains for the rest of that quiz session.

Are you in the App Store version? This is a known issue with a fix. Please read the discussion at:

I’m using the Testflight version. A few things I noticed:

  • I no longer receive notifications for my reviews
  • Items that I answer wrong aren’t properly filed as such. At the end of the session, I could have 100% whereas I’m certain I answered 3 or 4 wrong.
  • Maybe it’s due to this: When I answer wrong, and I choose “I answered correctly” it files it as wrong. But when I click on the arrow on the right side (to accept my wrong answer and move on), it files it as correct.

What settings do you have on and off?

I noticed something funny too: I have notifications ON and badge app icon OFF, but there is a number badge on the app icon, and I don’t receive notifications, so they’re flipped for me.

Edit: turning the notifications off doesn’t give me notifications. So whether it’s on or off, I don’t receive them.

I figured as much. Could you try temporarily disabling pause on partially correct?

The notifications is unfortunately a known issue.

hi Guys I m trying to find the “best ios wanikani app”.

I noticed both creators of either Tsurukame or Jakeipuu didnt seems to be around much.

I m asking because the new “extra study” function would be great on mobile app in the future.
I dont even ask if our feedbacks are noticed but is the app properly updated ?
