Yep, chapter 11 is next, and I’ll start by re-reading chapter 10 first. Especially since it’s been so long this time. (I wonder if I should skim or re-read in depth chapter 5, and 8+, too…)

I got as far as reading chapters 1-3 (I think), and entering vocab from chapter one in Anki. Still have a lot of exercises and workbook stuff to do. Between all the other stuff. Where does the time go?

Just joining y’all… I’m on chapter 8 going just a little faster than a chapter a week working with a tutor who’s using Genki to drive my studies.
My listening is strong for where I’m at (thank you > 1000 hours of anime in the past 2 years…), my speaking is slow but accurate (probably right around where I should be given where I’m at in my studies), writing is maybe a little advanced for where I’m at, and reading is terrible >.> I think I just freak out a little when I see a full page of Japanese text and have some sort of mental block.
What are everyone else’s self-grades?

Anki is an SRS program as well.
If you search the forums you can find a ton of material.
There’s even a 10k vocab deck that was lovingly made by @hinekidori.

Yah I started using that 10k vocab deck and I’m pretty confused, do I only get 20 things until I mark them as “great/really done/whatever the word is”? Is that configurable?
Kinda, it gives you a certain amount of new material a day(which is configurable to whatever number you want), and then it just gives you srs on them as you do it. you can also force it to give you new material in a day, and then it’ll give you them in increments of whatever number you set it to, and you can also do lessons like that.
Though, I do have to warn you, if you set that number up really high, it tends to start to get pretty insane with 1000+ cards to review a day and things like that, so try leaving that number at 20 for a while, and if after a week or two it still seems a bit slow, add like 5 a day or something, don’t rush it, because it is an srs system, so those cards do come back later, and that can really get out of hand if you are doing too many reviews in the first place

Makes sense, just a slow starter like WK I guess. I’m not in any rush with Anki, just looking for another effective, micro-learning tool.
yeah, with srs, you either have a slow start or a ridiculous amount of work later on. Good luck with your Anki!.

Kind of. Fell asleep on couch while finishing up chapter 1. Apparently my brain does not think it to be the most exciting reading. ┐(︶▽︶)┌
Well, chapter one really isn’t.
I don’t think anything was new to me until 5. Definitely 1 and 2 felt like a waste of my time, and so I put off grammar for so long because it was so boring and too easy.
Anyway…
Gotta charge this now…
I think I’ll be able to finish chapter 2 tomorrow night. (My next free time.)

So I have officially finished genki 1 with all 12 chapters! The only thing left is to summarize all grammar so I can reherse it easier
On to chapter 13 today!!
