I think it’s “liberation army” but you’re right that is doesn’t have a standalone entry in jisho. But 中国人民解放軍 is the Chinese people’s liberation army.

You’re absolutely right, and they’re also the words packed with a lot of meaning so when you know every word but one of those rare ones you get into sentences that say “This morning we spotted the xxx approaching!” and lose so much more meaning.

I have added the vocab list for week 10 in the spreadsheet. I’ll complete the missing ones since week 6 eventually for those who play after the club.

EDIT: it’s done, the vocab is now up to date with the club progression.

Not a lot of gameplay this week, we can chill a bit before the final gauntlet of dungeons. Now is the time to catch up if you fell behind!

I had fully intended to go through this game with everyone, but things just didn’t work out. :sob: I had things going on in my personal life and I was struggling way too much with dialogue, even with the vocab Sheet open. I might give it another shot after the holidays or sometime.

Having something like this to come back and measure yourself against over time is nice.

People here can try to help if you have specific questions, but do know that while the game is generally text-light enough to make it a good start, the writing is pretty pseudo old Japanese to match the fantasy style, so much of it is well beyond your average beginner recommended type of writing.

Yeah don’t be too hard on yourself, when I first starting playing games in Japanese I would go over the starting area over and over and over again, revisiting the text and understanding more and more every time. Eventually I mustered the confidence to keep going.

These clubs can be a good motivation to keep up a higher pace that you’re used to and push yourself outside of your comfort zone (I went through this recently when I decided to try an Advanced Book Club pick that forced me to read a novel much faster than I would on my own) but if you overdo it you’ll just burn out.

I think I was around WaniKani level 25 when I started playing Final Fantasy VIII “for real”, and it certainly wasn’t easy.

I hope that the spreadsheet and those discussion threads will prove useful even for those who decide to play the game at their own pace after the club has officially ended. That’s why I tried to be so comprehensive while building it.

OMG
I am so behind with Final Fantasy!

I would have been better off just being a “Filthy Pre-Player”
than the choice I made:
Taking the “ooh, that was good, now I still want to play video games, but must put Final Fantasy on hold through the end of the week” feeling… And then following that feeling up with, “I’ll just start a farm on Stardew Valley, that’s supposed to be an easy “cozy” game”
Biggest Mistake Ever!

I need to deeply imagine my キュット チーム, which I have abandoned! link to my ‘lineup’ post

Not a long game. Before the club started, I ended up preplaying through week… 8 (?) in just 3 nights, playing after dinner.
