Donāt cross the bridge. In fact donāt go near the bridge because that will trigger a cutscene thatās for next week.
More details
This week we finally investigate what Garland is up to in his shrine with his princess. Eventually a bridge will become accessible on the world map, giving you access to a new continent. Donāt go there yet.
You can however talk to the various NPCs you already know in Cornelia (many of them will have new dialogue) and finish your preparations for the journey ahead. See if you want to get more gear or spells, and stocking up on a few potions and antidotes may also be a good idea.
I really like the music that plays in the shrine. For those who havenāt seen it I wrote a small breakdown of how that track was made and why I find it so amazing here:
Woah! Already week 2! Whatās everybodys level starting this round? Iām aiming for way overlevelled, but unsure if level 5 is enough (original version, if that makes a difference).
Already? Iāve been sitting on my hands for more than a week to prevent myself from becoming a filthy pre-player! Iām at level 8, and definitely looking forward to entering the shrine after I get home from work today!
My recollection is that you can beat Garland at level 1. He is a nothing boss. You donāt even have to fight any enemies because heās right there at the entrance of the shrine. I think I recall thereās a story reason for why he sucks so much, but that would be spoiling.
Yes, please spoiler boss names! What may seem like common knowledge to people familiar with the games isnāt for those of us who have sadly been FF deprived our whole lives
Sorry I made it to the dark side. Just by a bit though, Iām probably around week 3 content
Despite everybody saying how easy this game is compared to the previous versions, I do things monster punch pretty hard when you change zone, plus status effect can be fatal, so trying to overlevel too here!
I didnāt listen to the guyās advice to stock up on potions at all; Iām half spoiled from how later games wouldnāt require you to prepare as much, and kinda forgot haha. Which made exploring the shrine fun and tense ā I havenāt done any grinding; Iām exploring what I find thoroughly enough but just fighting what comes in the meantime. By the time I had circled the whole perimeter of the shrine, attrition was setting in and I had to live off the one potion in a chest and make my escape to use the tent in the other chest outside before the boss. More fun for me than being overlevelled! But I guess this remaster will make me be eventually, anyway.
I forgot until the end of this session about changing my font and music to classic, but thatās done now. I just thought the princess has a rather cute sprite so I wanted to save it. She gave us an instrument for talking to her, so Iām gonna class change someone to bard now.
The locked doors in that shrine are weighing on my mind Was thinking maybe fighting Garland would let me unlock them but then we got dragged out; I guess that wasnāt the trigger. Iām getting dragged somewhere against my will once per week with this game so far.
The problem with these games is that I get stuck on the menu listening to the theme song every time I go to play (although not as much as I do with ff7, which will always be my favorite rendition).
The any button press will advance the text got me again. I guess I bump the analog sticks a lot when Iām holding the controller one handed reading text. @simias your script comes in handy for that too
As a heads up to those playing the pixel remaster version, it looks like poison canāt kill you in the overworld. I had a guy poisoned who dropped down to 1 HP, but my continued walking never actually killed him. Oddly, resting at the inn didnāt cure the poison, so I had to go buy an antidote.
I used a tent thinking it would cure my status effect and had to similarly trek back to town to get an antidote. Those green wolf things are annoying, stock up!
I donāt know why I put this off so long. I have less than an hour with my 3 warriors and single red mage. I went to town and got some armor for my team. The red mage got a sword and the rest got some hammers. I got the princess back. My third fight was Garland. We have built the bridge.
I finally got yomininja OCR to work(mostly) so now I am not as averse to loading the game up. When I get some free time I think I am going to grind some fights.
For a while I would load in, talk to the king, then exit the game the wrong way and it wouldnāt save. So it feels good to have some actual progress!
Good call, I havenāt bought any yet, or potions or really anything. After realizing that there was a town and that you can actually equip the stuff bought, my 3 warriors and the single red mage didnāt need any healing and were one-hitting most of the monsters.
Havenāt even bothered with buying any spells for my mage, yet. So I think my first play session will just be a shopping spree
Just completed the Week 2 section. The end point says ādonāt cross the bridge,ā but a safer note is probably ādonāt even touch the bridgeā because you will get a pile of narration which is the start of the Week 3 section if you go halfway!
