Polkadot Stingray is the first Japanese band that I got into. They have such variety, great singing, and the guitar work is so intricate.

Have you watched the movie about him? http://www.lowhighwho.com/lb/

I keep buying all the Get Your Genki releases for background listening. Not sure I’m picking up any words from it all, though!

I didn’t know about the movie! Thanks.

Oh, I lived in Japan for several years since finding him and am totally fluent. It was hard to understand him at first because it’s so slangy and casual sounding, but I can rap along with him now.

No problem

I also lived there for a year (before finding him) and can understand parts, but I don’t feel like I’m really getting everything.

I want to write translations of his tracks, but even finding lyrics all written out was difficult, and I don’t want to mishear something and mis-translate.

There are a lot of Japanese music that I am interested in. The City Pop songs are always a big favcourite of mine but bands and artists like UNCHAIN and Miki Matsubara are the best people that I want to listen to. It is hard to really pin down a favourite because there are so much great music from Japan. I’ve even heard some of the music being played while on an online poker lobby. They are becoming more mainstream now with the resurgence of City Pop but it is nice to see and hear that Japan is influential in another part of media once again.

I keep adding the music that I discover in this list:
It goes from Suda Masaki, Yonezu Kenshi, Aimon, Mrs Green Apple to a lot of anime and old ones ahahah

I like this band: Gesu No Kiwami Otome.

This is the only Japanese song whose lyrics I know in their entirety:

「Lemon」by 米津玄師

It’s apparently quite a classic in Japan and was the theme song of a drama (whose name I don’t know).

That aside, most of the Japanese songs I know are from anime. Here’s one (I can only sing the first 1:30):

あたしが隣にいるうちに by 藤川千愛

Anyone know what anime it’s from without looking it up? :stuck_out_tongue: (I would post the original music video, which is here and should be watched instead because credit goes to the original singer, but it gives away the anime name. This karaoke video uses the official MV’s soundtrack anyway. Pity the background image is an obvious hint as well!)

I’ve been way into this song lately.

For me, it’s gotta be Monochrome Effect by Perfume. Something about that song just brings me back to the past and I love it. Monochrome Effect / Perfume - YouTube
Plus it was in an American Dad episode.
