Do you have any favorite Japanese artists or songs?
I like to listen to music as a way to immerse myself in the language.
I’ve also started learning how to sing one of King Gnu’s songs (白日).
These are my favorite songs so far:
白日 - King Gnu
Kataomoi - Aimer
Sakura - Ikimonogakari
言って - Yorushika
Yooooo! This is the thread I didn’t know I needed so much. I’m definitely looking forward to all the music I gotta listen to soon
Some songs on the top of my head right now, I’ll maybe add more songs later:
pamplemousse or That Feel, both by Scars Borough
Linda Linda by The Blue Hearts, a classic
a lot of 福居良’s jazz
kirari futari by Mamerico
それでも、生きてゆく by EXILE ATSUSHI
Where/ how do you find new japanese bands you like? I am staring to listen to more japanese music and the “japanese music” playlist on youtube play has only like 15 songs lol though i do like a few
I have Apple Music so I’ll often use the Similar Artists feature to find new stuff. Sadly not every one of those has music on the US Apple Music, but it can usually lead me to finding their music from, say, the Japanese version.
I see! Well maybe the same will happen to me since I’m pretty sure youtube music will show me songs based on my likes, and i like a few of them. Apple may do it better though lol
I don’t know that it does it any better, but it’s just the way I’ve found a lot of secondary bands and artists I like that I would have never heard of otherwise. Though, sometime their similar artists choices are a bit out there compared to the artist in question.
It’s not Japanese but Kero Kero Bonito does make want to dance. Also it makes me feel like I do understand Japanese (For those of you who don’t know, it’s formed by two British artists and a British-japanese artist, Sarah Bonito)
I don’t listen to a lot of Japanese music outside of anime and video games, but one of my all time favorite songs is
真夏の出来事 (Midsummer Affair) by 平山みき(Miki Hirayama). This song came out in the early 70s. I first heard this song in a Japanese movie called アドレナリンドライブ back in '99, and it has always stuck with me.
