I was reading a manga and stumbled upon this phrase:
「最近のコはませてますなァ」
and for context here is the panel
and the cat is saying this to two characters who are young adults (18) and also the cat is like…12 in human years or younger than them
So is this phrase used ironically or is he saying it to the two cuz they are meant to be kids?
Happy is six.
But yeah, I think he’s putting on airs. Would need the previous panel to be more confident. Or else what chapter of Fairy Tail this comes from. Context is what comes before, not what comes after. 
You’re not planning to ask whether or not you can use this sort of language in the real world too?

Ok yeah, that’s definitely Happy putting on a character. Like “The kids, they grow up so fast these days” *Wipes away a tear* sort of thing.
I was wondering though so is the kids here meant to show they are meant to be kids or is it not literal and they are not literally kids
It kinda feels to me like you’ve not really understood Natsu’s or Lucy’s characterisations in this series. It’s not about whether or not they’re kids. The point is that whole UST. Or lack thereof.

so one last thing: the phrase doesn’t mean they are literally kids or kids yes?
I’ve never read this, but it the phrase seems figurative to me… Like picture some old guy sighing and saying “kids these days…” about ppl in there 20s
